Thank you for all the love you have shown STRINGS. We’ve read messages about Chef John Redding’s mentor and the lesson to ask instead of assume. We’ve heard from people who were taken back to the early days of their own culinary journey, and from those who have known John long enough to remember where his story began. Many of you also wrote about our host, @monal_z’s journey, and what passion, hard work, and perseverance can build over time. This means a great deal to all of us. A lifetime of knowledge passed forward sits at the heart of STRINGS. Thank you for watching, sharing, and being part of this chapter. If you haven’t watched STRINGS yet, you can find the full episode via the link our bio. What does it take to turn a memory into something you can feel? For A. V. Muhammad (@momocreates_), our Director and Editor on STRINGS, it meant recreating Chef John’s story instead of only having him describe it. His first day in the kitchen and the mentor who trained him were built back on screen, and the string tied around his apron grew from a simple detail into the symbol that carries the whole episode. One string. A lifetime of knowledge passed forward. Watch STRINGS in full, link in our bio. A @shivra.inc Original. #SHIVRA #ChroniclesOfAChef #STRINGS #Filmmaking #ChefsLife [A. V. Chef John Redding’s story doesn’t start in a kitchen. It starts with a man named Mario, and a mistake that taught him to stop assuming and start asking. What that patience turned into, and what it cost him to earn it, is the story we’re telling in STRINGS. Swipe through for the full journey. STRINGS, Episode 3 of Chronicles of a Chef, is streaming now. Watch it on our YouTube, link in our bio. A SHIVRA Original. #SHIVRA #ChroniclesOfAChef #STRINGS #Hospitality #DocumentarySeries [SHIVRA, Monal Malhotra, Sorav Malhotra, John Redding, Dil Se, Chef’s Table, MasterChef, Top Chef, ROOTS, BLOOM, Curated Media, Indie Film, Chef’s Life, Documentary, YouTube Series] Chef John was still new to that kitchen when Mario first walked in, loud enough that everyone noticed. He didn’t know it yet, but that was the day everything about his career started to take shape. Some people change the direction of your life before you even realize it’s happening. There was nothing subtle about Mario. Six foot plus, a voice that filled the room before he even said much, and a presence Chef John admits he was in awe of from day one. That’s the kind of presence that makes you want to prove yourself, whether he ever asked you to or not. Before he ever picked up a knife, Chef John’s whole world was football. He played for the love of the game itself, and that love never really let go of him, even once the kitchen took over. Split shifts meant Chef John had time between services, and he spent almost every one of them on a football pitch. He’d come back sweaty, out of breath, and go straight into dinner service like nothing happened. Two completely different worlds, and somehow he made room for both. Mario’s approach was simple: listen properly, ask the real question, and take the advice even when it’s hard to hear. It’s the kind of guidance that stings a little at first, before you realize how much it actually helped. There was one mistake that changed everything for Chef John, the moment he assumed instead of asking, and it cost him more than he expected. He never made that same mistake again. Some lessons you only need to learn once, if you’re actually paying attention. Long be

Chef John’s answer to what shaped him most wasn’t a single moment. It was a habit. Listen properly. Pick up the information that’s actually going to sharpen your skill. Ask the question. Take the advice when it’s given, not just when it’s convenient. Episode 3 of Chronicles of a Chef, STRINGS, is almost here. Subscribe to our YouTube channel via the link our bio. What is our ethos? It’s about everyone who actually keeps a kitchen, a floor, a hotel running, the people who rarely get asked about their own story. That’s what this show was built around: one part of someone’s life that quietly shaped everything that came after it, told the way they’d tell it themselves. Get ready for STRINGS. The first time Chef John met Mario, he barely said a word. He just stood there, in awe, of a six-foot-plus Greek Cypriot who filled a room before he’d even spoken. That respect never left him. Twenty years later, the lesson Mario gave him is still the one he leans on: nothing that matters happens once. It has to be consistent, every time. This is STRINGS. The trailer is yours to watch. Episode 3 premieres soon. Subscribe to our YouTube channel and don’t miss it. Chef John doesn’t call it mentoring so much as knowing when to step back. Give someone space. Give them time. Stay close enough to catch them if they need it, far enough that the decision to keep going still feels like their own. That’s the whole difference between managing someone and actually letting them grow into the opportunity in front of them.
