One week ago today I received news that one of my oldest friends and closest brothers of the last 14 years, had finally made his transition into the next life. He was only 40 years old. After nearly 17 years of health struggles, battling to find stable treatment for nerve pain management, and to function without constant pain and discomfort in his brain and body, my very close friend Padric made the decision to let go and leave his body.
He had constantly fought to find answers, treatment and care, in the hopes of being able to live a semi-normal and peaceful life. And I remember him telling me that if he could even find relief from his pain and discomfort for 75% of the time, that that wouldโ€™ve been enough for him.
His ongoing search and struggle for successful treatment through Western medicine, as well as through alternative medicine, led him into a mostly downward spiral (with some brief windows of hope and optimism) and degraded his mental health, as well as his physical health overtime.
Padric was an incredibly kind soul who never wanted to stop believing in people too easily.
We had known each other since preschool when we both went to French Montessori in Topanga during the late 80s, pictured above.
We had lost contact for nearly 20 years until reuniting at a wild musicians party in Topanga in 2009. From that point forward, we shared our music with each other as we were both lyricistโ€™s and involved with band-life, recording albums and performing live. He was one of my most inspired and inspiring collaborators and always influenced good writing spells when I worked with him. Beyond that, I believed him to be a true kindred spirit, and remember having some of the most meaningful, philosophical and spiritual conversations about life over the years of our friendship.
To honor Padricโ€™s life and offer the opportunity for people to feel included, we will be celebrating his life and facilitating this memorial for him, open to the public, to further facilitate healing for all those who remember Padric and would love to come and celebrate him. We will be offering this memorial at Corazon in Topanga on Sunday July 23 from 3-8pm.
I will post a flyer soon!
