The most powerful systems aren’t always the ones we’re forced to follow. Sometimes, they’re the ones we’ve never thought to question. From the food we eat to the language we use, our idea of what’s “normal” is shaped by decades of conditioning, cultural habits, advertising, and industries that benefit from keeping things exactly as they are. And when one way of doing things becomes the default, every other option is expected to justify its existence. But why should it? Why do we treat certain practices as unquestionable simply because they’ve existed for generations? Why do we hesitate to reconsider something familiar, even when better, more compassionate choices are available? The point isn’t just about milk. It’s about recognising how deeply our everyday choices are influenced by the systems around us and how rarely we stop to examine them. Because progress begins when we stop confusing what we’ve always done with what we should continue doing. Sometimes, change doesn’t begin with a new invention or a revolutionary idea. Sometimes, it begins with asking a question that we were never encouraged to ask in the first place.
