There’s a lazy assumption that eating plant-based means eating politely. The chefs on this list never got that memo. They’re pulling from diaspora playbooks older than the trend cycle, building dishes with memory and heat and point of view. Culture doesn’t get subtracted when the meat does. Save this one. You’ll need it.

@veggiecastle is one of my favorite plant based spots in NY! I came here a few times when I was younger and havent been back in years. It definitely did not disappoint andheir tasted just as good as the first time I came here. (It is actually located in south Richmond hill queens near Jamaica)

Day One of my @vegansexplore NYC Tour. The calm before the storm. Flew into the city and stopped by @veggiecastle. The food was excellent! Spent the rest of the day getting caught up editing and updating the Vegans Explore website. I knew the next day was going to be a marathon and I was right (writing this on day two. 🤓)

Also had some dinner from @andpizza in Jersey City. It was really good as well. The red was not completely Vegan and I didn’t have that many options on Uber Eats. Great options and buy one get one so I’m set for breakfast for a few days.

Stopped by @veggiecastle in Queens for a quick lunch and the stranger in front of me paid for my meal without me knowing. By the time I found out she was gone. What a great way to kick off this tour. Looking forward to paying it forward to make someone else’s day. Thank you whoever you are. It was great meeting you for a few minutes. 🙏🏾🌱☀️

The food hits each and every time.

Lunch @veggiecastle a NYC staple in Jamaica Queens. We liked everything except the jackfruit and that the displayed food isn't labeled. Takeout only.
While in Jamaica also check out nearby Rose Valley Cakes for a good and cheap selection of vegan cakes that are super light and fluffy...and tasty. I got pineapple for only $4.50.
