Are you enjoying the fall vibes? ๐Ÿ

Been a while since I last posted a color stack, so we have green for today. I have a lot of editing to do, but I try to enjoy some cozy fall vibes in the meantime.
Watching horror movies for spooky season, pumpkin spice lattes and all the good stuff. Also, made some progress on Heart Shaped Box and I'm enjoying it so far.

Malice Rebind

Bookbinder: @jacek.tylkowski
Book Block: Grim Oak

I decided to take on this project more than two years ago when I got to spend some extended time with the Gwynne Family. I didn't do this project because of my love for John's books (although I've read them all and do love every series he has done), but because John (and his family) are some of the most kind and wonderful people you will ever meet.

If you have ever read any of his series (particularly The Faithful and the Fallen), you will see strong themes of family, perseverance, and loyalty. Their family has been tested tremendously over the past few years and their strength through the worst possible thing that can happen to a family has been a thing to aspire to. When I see the Gwynne family, I can only hope that I will have the same kind of relationship with my boys that John and Caroline have with theirs.

I wanted to do something special for John, so I went to one of my favorite binders and told him about this project. Truth be told, this binding is not typical fare for Jacek and he was generous to stretch out of his comfort zone to make something that I knew John would love. I wanted to incorporate chainmail into the design, so we made a plate and blind stamped it on the black leather used for the quarter leather binding. I am also a huge fan of vellum, which we used to contrast starkly against the black leather. We finished it off by recreating Corban's sword and gold foil stamped it on the front and blind stamped on the back. This was also blind stamped into the enclosure, including a vellum label, leather spine and cloth on the remainder.

If you look at the last picture, you will see a shot of John tightly hugging the book, which was worth all the work put into this. Only two copies were made, one for John and one for myself.

If you haven't tried John Gwynne and you like epic fantasy that gives you the nostalgic feel of classic fantasy, but without some of the drawbacks, you need to pickup one of his books. His newest comes out next month, Wolves of War.

Truth and Courage!

A few weeks agoโ€ฆthis account I started back in January of this year (2026) to talk about books surpassed 10k followers. That is crazy to me that 10,000 people (including you bots) want to hear me yap about books.

Somebody important to me said when I started this account, โ€œYouโ€™ll have 10k followers by the end of the yearโ€ and I laughed. Weโ€™ve only gone and done in within 9 months. Mental.

Books have always been a sanctuary and an escape for me. From growing up in a small town in Wales with not much to do, books were always my friends and my comfort. Iโ€™ve moved a long way through life and books have always been with me. Theyโ€™ve taught me a lot about myself and the world.

Starting this account has helped me grow in confidence and as a person. Iโ€™ve found you all to talk about books with. Iโ€™ve made friends from all over the world and been introduced to stories I may have never discovered without the book community.

I guess what Iโ€™m trying to say is thank you ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป for your support, your engagement, your book recs and your friendship ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’€

Confession timeโ€ฆ
I have a habit of starting book oneโ€™s in fantasy series and then starting another book one! Itโ€™s a habit Iโ€™m trying to break but I need your help!

Which of these unfinished fantasy series should I continue?
- Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
- Malice by John Gwynne
- Godkiller by Hannah Kaner
- Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
-The Silverblood Promise by James Logan
- Of Blood and Fire by Ryan Cahill

Let me know in the comments. Only one can survive (maybe) ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’€

10 Before the End!

Are there any books you want to read before the end of the year? Iโ€™ve tagged a few people to post their 10 before the end but as always, no pressure!

I have a few lit fics, some fantasy and sci-fi, a reread!

- Empire of Silence by Christopher Ruocchio - time for a reread and possibly annotation?
- The Secret History by Donna Tart
- The Rouse by China Mieville - Iโ€™m actually reading this right now and itโ€™s a very impressive story
- Stone of Farwell by Tad Williams
- The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon - I plan on read the whole series by the end of the year!
- Navola by Christopher Paolini
- Son of the Serpent by Shauna Lawless - Gael Song is a such a great historical fantasy so Iโ€™m excited to read the most recent installment
- Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky - this is the classic Iโ€™ve been most interested in reading and itโ€™s time
- The Lion of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay - I keep putting this on my monthly TBR and pushing it back but I refuse to push it to 2027
- The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu - I am ready for the Danelion Dynasty!

Any you think I should start with first?
