Harvel Nakundi, drummer and longtime BackCountry Jazz friend, recently spent some time with us as part of our 2026 Summer Music Program.

Students were invited to Fairfield University to attend one of our concerts. Musicians and mentors like Harvel are essential to the development of the educational programming here at BackCountry Jazz.

This one had us locked in! 🔥🎶

Check out the BR Trio putting our spin on Dan Nimmer’s “Lu’s Bounce” at the Tribby Arts Center in Fort Myers, FL. My musical brother Joshua Bowlus introduced me to this tune, and we had a blast navigating through it and making it our own! 🎻🔥

Today is Emperor Jean Jacques Dessalines birthday! The liberator of Ayiti-Empire of Freedom. 🔴⚫️I honored his birth by composing and recorded a song called “Issa”, his birth-name. Featuring Godwin Louis, Harvel Nakundi, Bobby Raymond, & Domingo Pagliuca.
