Ride with a camera strapped to me pretty much every time now — cobbled backstreets, empty lanes under the pylons, quick stops at the corner shop for a snack. Somewhere along the way it just became part of the kit, right next to the helmet and bibs.

Big shoutout to my @lumierethecompany strap for actually making this possible — zero bounce, doesn’t shift, doesn’t smack into my ribs when things get rough. Genuinely forget it’s there until I want to grab a shot, which is exactly what you want.

Nothing fancy today — just a couple of hours in zone 2, on roads I don’t ride nearly enough.

Remembered the book swap in an old phone box I’. Rode under a bridge where the light i thought was to good not to stop at. Nearly got out-cooled by a bloke in an Ariel Atom.

Also missed two photos I actually wanted: a ladybird hitching a ride on my arm, and a bird of prey overhead I couldn’t even identify because Merlin decided that was the moment to load slowly. Some rides you bring back what you meant to. Some you don’t.

No Lycra. No cleats. No idea what my heart rate is. Just a single speed, a pair of old trainers, and a nine-mile answer to “why don’t you just drive.”

Passed a postbox with its own fairy garden on top, which felt like more effort than most people put into their actual gardens. Commuting on one gear means you stop noticing the bike and start noticing everything else — which is either the whole point or just what happens when you can’t change gear to distract yourself.

Steady zone 2 with an early start for me and ride to the coast

Passed a couple of old school filling stations, one certainly isn’t in use and the other I aren’t so sure about but either I do like look and feel of them. One of them having a classic mini shiny and clean.

And considering it was over cast in parts the light at times was great.

Endurance ride + openers tonight

Miles in the legs, then a few hard efforts to wake them up. Cows didn’t care, cathedral looked unreal, sky moody

Is the Ai plan working

So just a quick plan update.

Second week completed and it’s a funny as in some ways I can’t see if things are changing but the sessions I am going thinking are going to suck big time (it’s a mental thing) are actually only a little sucky and are seemingly getting a little easier.

After yesterday’s easy spin my felt absolutely crap, could hardly bend without discomfort. Yes I did some stretching last night which did ease it a lot (must do today too) but before I headed out I could feel pulling a little so nearly didn’t ride.

Today was a bit over 2hours in zone with nice 20 minute temp block slap bang in the middle (this is why I was concerned about my back)

But this is where I think the plan is working, yes I know tempo is zone 3 and should be simple enough although a little rank. It actually felt reasonably easy, except the finding up the hill and surprisingly my back held out there.

So long and short yes I think it’s working but proof is the pudding right
