What happens if we create spaces where we can learn, support local businesses, eat good food and kick it with great people?

This is intentional community building…

Good people, we continue to build this thing. And we’ve long said that we have the information in our network, but we need to pull it together.

On October 10th we invite you to join us for our next brunch and learn where we will be doing just that, learning from members of our own community who have been able to reach scale and build out real real estate development businesses.

Come learn the real, the hard lessons learned, how they dealt with contractors, NOs and financing to get to where they currently are.

We’ll have good food provided by Chef Cat, while enjoying a couple mimosas, then after you’re done, go next door and check out some art from local artists, in a space owned mostly by members from BYP.

This is what happens when we come together.

What do YOU see……………🎨

That’s the beauty of art. We can stand in front of the same piece and walk away seeing something completely different.

Week 4 of 6 of Luxury Hospitality Unplugged took us to The Be Lounge Art Exhibition in West Baltimore, where my friend and brother of 20+ years, @venroyjuly , did much more than open his doors.

Venroy opened his story. He shared candidly about the vision, the struggles that shaped him, the lessons learned along the way, and what he is building for the future. His journey became part of our lesson and a living example of what it means to see possibility before everyone else can see it.

West Baltimore to the world.

Our lesson: The Art of Seeing: Hospitality Begins With Vision.

📖 “Write the vision and make it plain…”
Habakkuk 2:2

Great artists see possibility.
Great leaders see potential.
Christ challenges us to see people differently.

Vision gives direction. Hospitality gives vision a place to live.

Grateful for Venroy, his vulnerability, his vision, and another powerful night of faith, art, hospitality and fellowship. So Thankful for this group and the small groups platform at @weareunionchurch to advance the Kingdom and grow community while finding our people along the way!

We want to invite you all to our next monthly happy hour which we will be hosting at @avenuekitchenbar on September 24th from 5-9p

These happy hours we started 13 years ago because we didn’t know where to find the other black professionals in the city, so it’s always been about building community. Now 13 years later we know we are here but the need is just as strong.

This is exactly when we have to lean in to community.

First we gotta build the relationships and then we work together, so it’s never just been about grabbing drinks.

So with that come through and network with some other dope people.

As summer closes, I keep coming back to one experience that continues to move me personally and anchor me professionally.

Six weeks. Six signature Baltimore spaces. One question: What does biblical hospitality look like when it meets everyday life?

That was Luxury Hospitality Unplugged, now in its third year and still one of the parts of my calendar I protect the most.

This isn’t a corporate strategy or client engagement. It’s a small group through @weareunionchurch -Union Church that happens to gather inside some of @visitbmore best hospitality spaces because sometimes the room can teach the lesson just as powerfully as anyone!

And our closing night was special.

Cynthia Thurmon, Randal, and the Magdalena team at The Ivy Hotel curated a seated courtyard dinner and pairing that became a masterclass in hospitality without ever needing to call itself one.

Every course intentional.
Every pour thoughtfully timed.
Every detail considered.

That’s what hospitality looks like when a team has internalized the standard instead of simply performing it.

And there’s something else worth acknowledging: @theivyhotel was recently recognized as the #1 hotel in the United States on @tripadvisor Having the opportunity to host two of our six gatherings there this summer was certainly not lost on me.

Excellence recognizes excellence.

I’m grateful to every owner, general manager, leader, and hospitality professional who opened their doors and allowed us to sit in remarkable spaces while having conversations about something much bigger than hospitality as an industry.

We talked about Service. Faith. Grace. Accountability. Anticipation. Dignity. And what it means to make room for people. 🤲🏽

That’s Luxury Hospitality Unplugged.

I’ll share highlights from each of our six experiences over the next several weeks, along with the people and places who helped make it happen!

The amazing thing about art is its different interpretation and what others see through art.
🖼️
Tonight 7/7 at 7P with host @juanfrommadison we invite you to join an experience a discussion about art, hospitality and scripture.

Anchor Scripture
Habakkuk 2:2
“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.”
Vision gives direction.
Hospitality gives vision a place to live.
