Baja doesn’t care how prepared you think you are. 🌵💨

It tests your build, your crew, your focus—and your willingness to stay on the throttle when the course gets rough.

This is the NORRA 500 Baja Coast Challenge: wide-open desert, deep dust, big air, and the kind of racing that stays with you long after the finish line.

October 8–11, 2026
Ensenada to San Quintín and back.

2026 SCORE Baja 400 Recap
I headed down to Ensenada with Joe “Hauler” Desrosiers to prerun for the 2026 SCORE Baja 400. We encountered some of the hottest and most humid conditions either of us had ever experienced in Baja, along with sudden, heavy rainstorms that left standing water throughout much of the course.
We completed two successful days of prerunning—although our final day ended with us laying the prerunner on its side just five miles from the end of our run. Not exactly how we planned to finish, but that’s Baja. Thank you to Robby Gordon for helping us get back on our wheels. We also had a great time hanging out with the VEPS crew and getting to know everyone. They welcomed us from the beginning and were an awesome group to spend the week with.

Race Day
I started the race with Joe in Sergio Rangel’s Brenthel TT Spec Gen 3.5. The plan was straightforward: I would drive the northern outbound section east from Ensenada, then hand the truck back to Sergio near the midpoint so he could bring it home on the return leg up the coast.
Unfortunately, the problems started early. By Race Mile 20, the alternator had failed, leaving the truck stationary for approximately one hour and 34 minutes while the rest of the field continued past us.
Once we were moving again, while running behind #1111, we dealt with a brake-line failure that cost us another 10 minutes. Despite all of that, the truck was working well, and we finally had a chance to show its true pace.
In Section 3, we recorded the fifth-fastest time among the 22 TT Spec entries. After everything that had already gone wrong, it was encouraging to see that our pace belonged near the front of the field.
I brought the truck into the planned driver-change point, where we completed the handoff. Sergio then took over for the return leg north along the coast.

Near Eréndira, the course had been rerouted around a landslide onto a new and unfamiliar section. While attempting to pass another car in the dust, Sergio went wide and dropped into a large, unmarked hole, rolling the truck. It took approximately one hour and 15 minutes to get it back on its wheels and underway.
Sergio kept pushing toward the finish.
