Mitsuro Hikime is a Japanese wax sculpting technique used for forming intricate organic forms, to be lost wax cast into jewellery and sculpture.

The course is suitable for all levels and creative practices. If you are a beginner, or experienced jeweller everyone is welcome.

On the class you will learn how to make your own mitsuro using an authentic Japanese recipe. Followed by experimental sculpting techniques in the morning and developing a finished wax piece in the afternoon. I will also be doing demonstrations on how to sprue your wax designs ready for casting!

A lovely buffet lunch is also included!

Some recent hair pin experiments 🗝️ the rising price of silver and casting costs has me scrabbling around my studio for scraps and discarded projects to upcycle into new pieces, and this hairpin is the result of this! Can confirm it works for thick hair as well as my fine hair - thank you to my work colleagues/test subjects for wearing it around the candle studio! 🕯️⚜️

Had so much fun yesterday making Day of the Dead inspired candles with my studio mate Sam and fellow jeweller Linda, hosted by the wonderful @wax_atelier whose amazing work with wax and other natural materials I have followed for many years! Check them out and all the inspiring residencies they have taken part in learning traditional techniques from all over the world.

I am so pleased with my candle but everyone in the class did so well and every candle looked so different and unique to them! If I hadn’t been so engrossed in making these cute extra candles I would have remembered to do a video of everyone’s work! 🫣🙌

Great class, I recommend checking them out for other upcoming classes.

A series of interactive exhibits for the German Underground Hospital Museum in Jersey in 1998.

‘The dresser’ showed the effects of rationing on daily life in Jersey.

‘The bureaux’ revealed Jersey’s subversive activity with a decoded transcript and home made radios, code books and propaganda leaflets in the drawers.

The ‘crystal set’ was a jigsaw puzzle of ‘components’, when assembled played a radio recording off the BBC Home Service.

Designed and made at Atlas Models by Linda Brewer, Adam Wright, the late Bill White, Alison Gill, Jez Heeler and myself.
