Why do some of the saddest songs feel so beautiful?

I talked to MT Jones about his song “Why I Cry,” and the strange alchemy of taking something painful and turning it into something people actually want to sit with.

Maybe that’s what a great song can do. It doesn’t make the sadness disappear. It just gives it somewhere to go.

The Beatles. David Byrne. Different artists, but MT Jones sees something important in both of them:

Keep making things.

For MT, songwriting isn’t something he has to force himself to sit down and do. It’s something he genuinely loves doing every day, part of a routine like having a cup of coffee. And honestly, that’s probably the best reason to keep writing.

Thanks to @verna_nashville for hosting and @greenriverdistillingco for inspiring the cocktail.
