POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A truly powerful and exquisite exhibition by Veronica Buchanan, which I had the pleasure of experiencing on Friday at Artlink, Fort Dunree.
Beautifully executed, deeply moving Carrying the Silence is the kind of exhibition that speaks to you without needing words. Every detail is considered, every single piece carries its own quiet weight, and the work stays with you long after you leave.
An extraordinary and thought-provoking body of work, presented with such sensitivity, depth and artistic brilliance. A privilege to experience. 🤍

Carrying the Silence by @veronica.buchanan considers the physical and emotional weight of what we carry with us after loss. Garments, fragments of lace, handwritten keepsakes and images of childhood become containers for memories of absent bodies and lives. Cast in ceramic, objects associated with softness, intimacy and the human body become heavy and enduring. Alongside them, delicate fabrics and small personal remnants suggest the fragility of memory.

The works occupy a space between keepsake, relic and memorial. They draw on childhood, family, religious ritual and the private objects through which lives are remembered. Titles such as Secret Child, With the Angels and Little Comfort offer fragments of possible stories without fully revealing them. What remains is an encounter with absence: the feeling of carrying something that can no longer be returned, repaired or put down.

Opening Reception 9th October 6pm
You are all very welcome.

What a great afternoon we had at Crumlin Road Gaol on Saturday for the official Preview of the 69th Annual Summer Exhibition of the Ulster Society of Women Artists, USWA. It was a packed house.

I am delighted to be participating once again in this wonderful exhibition, which seems to grow stronger every year.

I was invigilating yesterday and I'm very happy to say that many artworks have already found new homes.

Congratulations to the USWA hard working committee, fellow exhibiting artists and all of this year’s prizewinners. It was a privilege to join the sponsors and representatives from the exhibition’s chosen charity, Belfast And Lisburn Women’s Aid, in celebrating this very special occasion.

Tomorrow Tuesday, plein air painters will be joining award winning artists Jacque McNeill and Jeff Monaghan and on Thursday, artist Beverley Healy will be holding a very special workshop, which can be booked with Eventbrite through the USWA website.

Open daily all this week 10am to 5pm, with late night opening on Thursday and Friday.

Huge congratulations to everyone involved. Another spectacular exhibition and a great example of teamwork.

For further details, visit www.uswa.org.uk or follow @uswa.art.

Some close-ups I took today at Veronica Buchanan's very moving exhibition, Connections, at the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh. Loose threads, downy feathers, exquisite needlework, imprints on clay, ivory linen, paint allowed to drip, old roses.....
Do visit if you're in the area.

Visited the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh this afternoon to experience Veronica Buchanan’s beautiful moving exhibition 'Connections'.

Proud to have my assemblage piece "Threads That Bind Us", a tribute to the heritage and heirlooms carried through generations of Irish families, included in her Connection sculpture,

My pictures do not do them justice, you need to go see this amazing exhibition for yourselves.
It continues until Nov 29th.

What a wonderful evening at 'Bloodroot ' exhibition in Pulchri Studios in The Hague on Friday. A powerful exhibition to celebrate Lá Fhéile Bríde 💚

It was a privilege to hear the Irish Ambassador Dr. Ann Derwin and Martina Hamilton speak so eloquently and passionately about the exhibition.

And an absolute honour to hear poet Annemarie Ní Chuirreáin read 'Six Ways to Wash Your Hands' and 'Bog Medicine'. Two of the four poems from her powerful Bloodroot collection that inspired the exhibition.

Thanks to Martina Hamilton, Pulchri Studios and The Embassy of Ireland in The Hague for the privilege of exhibiting alongside 110 irish women artists. It was fabulous to meet so many of them on Friday evening. I believe over 70 artists travelled for the event - fantastic!

I had a thoroughly enjoyable conversation with Dutch Ambassador Maaike van Koldam about connecting with art, processes and what inspired my hand embroidered portrait titled 'Redemption in Red '.

Truly grateful to have experienced such a moving event in such a spectacular space. #BloodrootExhibition #PulchriStudio #TheHague #ArtAndCulture #Irishartists
