Now on view on the High Line at 30th Street: "Interlude"

As the metal shutters rise, each reveals a solitary figure—one blonde, the other redheaded—bathed in neon and fluorescent light, engaging in the rhythmic, seemingly rote task of preparing stadium food. The characters squirt condiments onto piles of French fries and sweating hot dogs while singing an eerie and melancholic song, whose chorus goes: “You can win, you can sin, you can do anything, in the next life.”

By spotlighting this space and the vendors—ones who are typically relegated to the background to a point of invisibility—Simnett turns the workers’ shifts into a powerful and humanizing performance of agency, despair, and survival.

Fantasy Futbol brings together films by Marianna Simnett, @flipkostic and @anahusman that explore the drama and myth surrounding the world’s most-watched sport: soccer, or football/fútbol as it is known beyond the United States. The works examine the narrative structures that shape the sport’s public life, from the roles and power dynamics on and off the field to the authority of commentary and broadcast media that frame how matches are seen and remembered. Through choreography, livestream performance, and cinematic reenactment, the films follow how moments of play become stories, rituals, and enduring lore that sustain soccer’s cultural and visceral grip worldwide. Fantasy Futbol marks the New York City premiere of all three films and coincides with the arrival of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the New York tri-state region.
