We’re excited to announce the launch of Interpretations VI, an experimental exhibition exploring the possibilities of carbon fibre.

Interpretations is an ongoing exhibition series curated by Vert Design, held every two years. Each instalment brings together local design pioneers to explore a particular material or manufacturing process, celebrating the adaptability, creativity and continued relevance of industrial design.

For this sixth instalment, we’re showcasing work by a talented group of designers pushing the boundaries of carbon fibre through experimentation, material exploration and unexpected applications.

Curated by Vert Design (Andrew Simpson, Caity Duffus and Eloise Cleary)

Last night I saw @theplasticcountryfilm , a powerful investigation into plastic’s impact on our bodies and ecosystems from youth ocean champion @kalglanznig hosted by @__findingnature__ .

Working in waste every day, unfortunately there was little that was a surprise (although it’s still not an easy watch). But it reinforced something I know to be true: our systems were designed, which means they can be redesigned. What feels like an unsolvable problem is a policy and design opportunity, and that’s the work I’m fired up to keep doing.

We thought we were designing a tiny clip. How hard could it be? Turns out… very. 😅🍒

What we thought might take six months became almost two years of R&D, multiple designers and six different prototypes.

Because when something is this small, every millimetre matters.

How small could we make it without compromising grip?
Would it rub against your skin?
Could an edge catch on your clothing?
Was it easy enough to snap on and off?
Would it stay discreet while actually doing its job?

Every prototype uncovered something new. So we changed it. Tested it. Changed it again.

Until we landed on a design that was tiny, discreet, comfortable, bra-safe and clothing-safe, without compromising the strength needed to help stop your bra strap adjuster from slipping.
