Today marks Vinyl Battle Wednesday, a special occasion where we celebrate Serious Rock Talks reaching an impressive milestone of 1,000 posts on Instagram. In honor of this achievement, we are shining a spotlight on the legendary Canadian guitarist Randy Bachman, who hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Bachman is renowned for being a founding member of two iconic bands: The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive. During his time with The Guess Who, he collaborated closely with Burton Cummings, co-writing several unforgettable hits. By 1970, he had teamed up with Fred Turner to create Bachman-Turner Overdrive, further solidifying his place in rock history. In today’s exciting battle, we pit the classic album “American Woman” from The Guess Who against the powerful 1974 album “Not Fragile” by Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Which of these remarkable works will earn your vote as the ultimate Bachman masterpiece? #theguesswho #bachmanturneroverdrive #randybachman #vinylbattlewednesday #burtoncummings Album Title: American Woman Artist Name: The Guess Who Album Artwork: The Band on the Cover Genre: Rock Release Date: 1970 Country: USA Label: RCA Victor Producer: Jack Richardson Vs. Today marks the 14th day of the 6th annual Nicky’s No Good Halloween Vinyl Challenge, a fun event organized by Nicky himself. As a delightful treat for participants, Skittles are being featured, a candy well-known for its catchy slogan, “Taste the Rainbow,” which was crafted in 1994 by the advertising agency D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles. In a creative twist, this slogan is being linked to a Vinyl Battle Wednesday, where we pay tribute to the legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and his musical project, Rainbow, which prominently showcased two remarkable vocalists: Ronnie James Dio and Graham Bonnet. The challenge lies in determining which singer delivered a more powerful performance on two of Rainbow’s classic albums. On one side, we have Dio’s final album with the band, “Long Live Rock N’ Roll,” released in 1978, and on the other, Bonnet’s contribution with the album “Down to Earth,” which came out in 1979. As you engage in this spirited debate for Nicky’s No Good Halloween Vinyl Challenge, consider which vocalist you believe truly captured the essence of Rainbow’s sound and made a lasting impact on rock music. Album Title: Long Live Rock N’ Roll Artist Name: Rainbow Album Artwork: The band on the cover Genre: Metal Release: 1978 Country: France Label: Polydor Producer: Martin Birch Vs. Album Title: Down To Earth Artist Name: Rainbow Album Artwork:A rainbow on the side of earth Genre: Metal Release:1979 Country: France Label: Polydor Producer: Roger Glover #nnghalloweenvinyl #vinylbattlewednesday #rainbow #skittles #ronniejamesdio

Dear Juno’s, We would like to propose that Ferris Kennedy from Serious Rock Talk host the 2027 Juno Awards in Winnipeg. His involvement would bring a fresh perspective to the event, and being in Winnipeg would allow for the recognition of iconic local artists such as The Guess Who, Tom Cochrane & Red Rider, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, McMaster & James, Crash Test Dummies, The Watchmen, Bif Naked, Chantal Kreviazuk, Tal Bachman, BTO, The Weakerthans, Fred Penner, & Terry Jacks and many others. This opportunity would not only celebrate these talented musicians but also showcase the best of Canadian music. Google has highlighted the potential benefits of hosting this event, emphasizing the chance to honor Canada’s finest. The idea of the Serious Rock Talk crew taking over a major Canadian broadcast breaks down like this: The Viral Juno Campaign The podcast members publicly addressed the idea of hosting the 2027 Juno Awards in Winnipeg. They shared a viral concept arguing why the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and the CBC should hand the reins over to Ferris: The “Ricky Gervais” Effect: Most award shows are tightly scripted, leading to safe, corporate banter. Because Ferris’s entire brand is built on his legendary, unfiltered “Kennedy’s Rants”, he would bring a refreshing, hilarious edge to the stage. Fans love the idea of him roasting the music industry’s elite right to their faces. Re-Centering Canadian Rock: The Junos have faced heavy critique for shifting too far into corporate pop and electronic music, prompting major category shake-ups. A Serious Rock Talk takeover would force the spotlight back onto legendary Canadian rock foundations, indie guitar bands, and grassroots songwriters. Winnipeg Pride: With the 2027 Junos taking place in Winnipeg, the host city sits on a massive rock legacy (home to Neil Young and The Guess Who). Dr. Clarke and Ferris’s encyclopedic knowledge of Canadian rock history means they would celebrate the host city’s actual musical roots far better than a standard Hollywood actor reading off a prompter. Please give us a chance as we love Canadian Music and want to promote it. #junos #caras #cbc #winnipeg

Today marks the 13th day of the 6th Annual Nicky’s No-Good Halloween Vinyl Challenge, @nickynogood315 featuring Spree, a candy produced by The Willy Wonka Candy Company, which is part of the Ferrara Candy Company under Ferrero SpA. Originally developed by the Sunline Candy Company, later known as Sunmark Corporation, in St. Louis during the mid-1960s, Spree was conceived by an employee named John Scout. In the 1970s, Nestlé acquired the brand, and it has since been marketed under the Willy Wonka label. To celebrate Spree, I thought it fitting to embark on a vinyl shopping spree, with the help of my good friends Erika, and Darin along with some delightful treats that I believe @pahlowmike and @bookandvinylvibes will enjoy. #spree #nnghalloweenvinyl #pinkpanther #halloween #waylonjennings

Day 12 of the 6th annual Nicky’s No Good Halloween Vinyl Challenge, hosted by the iconic Nicky, @nickynogood315 focuses on the delightful treat, Jolly Rancher. Founded in 1949 by Bill and Dorothy Harmsen, the Jolly Rancher Company aimed to evoke a friendly Western vibe, opening its first ice cream store in Golden, Colorado, on May 28 of the same year. Today’s theme connects to the ranchers from Poway, California, known as Blink-182, which includes members Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Scott Raynor, who was later replaced by Travis Barker. Their album “Dude Ranch” ties back to the ranching theme of the day. #jollyrancher #nnghalloweenvinyl #blink182 #halloween #vinyl
