Hello Instagram!

It’s been a very long doof season in Canberra this year, but I think we are wrapping it up, with (probably) the last doof of the year.

In a collaboration between @spectral.emissions and @vesper.cbr, we are excited to present:

REFRACTION

This is a project which has been in the works for quite some time now, and one which we have been itching to share with you all.

For REFRACTION, we will be taking you out into the bush, and playing some music which might be a little bit harsher, darker, and less forgiving than what you would typically hear at a party in Canberra. But don’t fret, the music will most certainly keep you dancing through until sunrise.

We are also very excited to announce that we will be using the @gyrosoundsystem. Please bring (and wear) earplugs.

We acknowledge the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people as the traditional owners of the stolen land on which this event will be held. We acknowledge their continuing connection to the land, culture and community, and would like to pay our respects to their Elders, past and present. We would also like to extend these respects to all First Nations peoples who will be attending this event. We recognise that sovereignty was never ceded. It always was, and always will be Aboriginal land.

Free tickets are available for all First Nations people, so please get in touch via our DMs.

This event is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible, and intense strobe lighting will be used. Please contact us for any accessibility inquiries you may have.

Naarm-based producer Miles McEldowney has carved out a distinct sound under his WTP project, drawing on 2000s tech house, trance and progressive sounds. With releases on Paper-Cuts, The Space Between Us and Companion, his productions layer analogue textures, intricate percussion and deep, hypnotic grooves. Deeply emotive, driving yet spacious, his music evokes the freedom and euphoria of the dancefloor. As a selector, WTP brings that same sensibility, balancing propulsion and restraint while drawing on forgotten gems and timeless sounds from dance music’s past.

A fixture of Australia’s underground dance music scene for over two decades, Magda Bytnerowicz has long established herself as one of the country’s most respected selectors. Co-founder of Eora’s 4our party series and Mardi Gras heavyweight, she’s played everywhere from Inner Varnika and Hopkins Creek to Berlin’s Panorama Bar. Her sets traverse classy minimal and deep house, itchy acid jams, slinky electro and rowdy breakbeats, all tied together by an instinctive command of mood and movement.
