“oh but it’s embarrassing sometimes, when the wanting shows”

And maybe one day
when the alcohol softens the sharp edges of memory,
I will let go—
not out of healing,
but out of exhaustion.
I will sit with ghosts like they never hurt me,
laugh with the names
that once felt like wounds in my mouth,
and pour forgiveness
like it was never rationed in me.
Maybe I’ll call it peace,
this quiet surrender,
this blurred mercy that only comes
when I am too far gone to resist it.
And in the morning,
with a dry throat and a heavier chest,
I will search for the anger
that once kept me alive,
and find nothing but silence
where it used to burn.
No apologies,
no closure,
just an absence so clean
it almost feels like grace.
And maybe that is what scares me most,
not the forgetting,
but how easy it becomes
to forgive
when I am no longer fully there.

Kiss me like you mean it,
like you’re trying to reach
every part of me I’ve hidden away,
not gently, not carefully,
but with the kind of honesty
that leaves no room for doubt.

Kiss me like you’ve been searching for me
in places I didn’t know I existed,
like your lips remember
what my heart has tried to forget.

Kiss me until the silence between us breaks,
until every guarded piece of me softens,
until I no longer feel like something to be handled
but something to be chosen,
fully, fiercely and without hesitation.

I may be selfish, but tell me who isn't?
.......I still wish for more and to be better for the people who chose to stay.

"Dreams" is inspired by my nights out living in Seattle and Chicago and all the scenes my friends and I would witness into the early hours of the morning - the freedom of nighttime vs the harsh reality of a new day - the hushed, dark undertones of trying to escape + forget for a night

p.s. I'm a square and this poem is mostly secondhand experience - I'm clarifying for my mom because she follows this account now. hi mom

I don't post writings about my relationship very much because it is the most important piece of my life and I'm very protective of that, buuuuut my anniversary was a couple weeks ago so it's a (belated) special occasion ‼️ this is about the tiny details in the small highs and small lows throughout life, and how every moment, good and bad, has its own unique beauty because love lives everywhere, soooooo....here's "where love lives" 🙈🙈 and it ends on four quiet moments from our wedding because that was just the best day obv
