An unforgettable tournament @kidsnergymalaysia filled with amazing memories with the @thekitchnclub.my fam! ❤️🏆 Proud to finish 🥇 1st in Boys’ Singles U18 and 🥇 1st in Boys’ Doubles U16, as well as 🥈 2nd in Mixed Doubles U16! Every shot has a journey, and this is how we built her double backhand lob. 🎯 We started with the basics…getting her footwork and positioning right, Before adding power, I wanted her to build the habit of consistently targeting the cross-court corner. Once she could do that, we moved on to the next part: understanding when to use the lob and why. Its not just about getting the ball over yr opponent. It’s about recognising the right opportunity to put them under pressure. During intense dinking rallies, when your opponent starts leaning forward a little too much, that’s when we look for the opportunity to disguise a double backhand lob as a dink. Same setup, different outcome. ☺️ From there, we worked on generating power through the legs, moving up with the ball, and using the right paddle angle and follow-through to create topspin so the ball kicks away and becomes harder for the opponent to reach. Finally, we brought everything together into live play, this is usually the hard part. Knowing when to make the choice to use the technique. Most times we get it wrong because we make the wrong choice. My approach is simple: don’t just teach the shot. Teach the player to understand it, trust it, and making the right choice during the game to know when to use it. Then go back and drill it to perfect it.
