☀️ Hot weather isn't just tough on us
it's tough on our pets too.

Dogs and cats can overheat much faster than people, especially during warm summer days.

A few simple things can make a big difference:

💧 Keep fresh water available at all times
🌳 Provide shade and cool resting areas
🚶 Avoid walks during the hottest hours of the day
✂️ Light grooming can help some pets stay comfortable
🚨 Watch for signs of heat stress such as excessive panting, lethargy, or vomiting

And one more thing...

Take a moment today to check on a stray animal in your neighborhood. A bowl of water can save a life. ❤️

Before the September rush — have you reviewed your pension for 2026?
Summer is the window most vets use to get this done — before September hits and it moves down the list again.

One conversation with our team is usually enough to see whether your pension contributions are as tax-efficient as they could be at your income level. For many vets, there’s meaningful relief going unclaimed.

We’ve worked with veterinary professionals for over 25 years. The review is free, takes 20 minutes, and you’ll leave knowing exactly where you stand.

Most days, I’m a practicing veterinarian, focused on the patients and clients in front of me.

But being part of Vet Space Ireland gives me the opportunity to contribute to something bigger than myself: supporting, connecting, and strengthening our veterinary community as a whole.

Coming back to Ireland this week was healing in so many ways. Not because it brought back the past, but because it reminded me how much this place, these people, and this community have shaped who I am. Some places will always have a piece of your heart.

Watching what started as an idea grow into something that brings veterinary professionals together is such a privilege. And getting to do it alongside this incredible team of passionate, talented, hardworking women makes it even more special.

I’m so proud of what we’ve built, grateful for every person who believed in it, and excited for what’s still to come. 💚🇮🇪

There’s a moment in almost every day that reminds me why this work matters.

It’s not the perfectly healed incision or the textbook diagnosis. Those are wins, sure. But it’s the quiet things. The dog that finally relaxes when you walk back into the room. The cat that pretends to hate you but leans in just a little. The owner who says, “Thank you for trying,” even when the outcome isn’t what we hoped.

Veterinary medicine lives in that space between science and uncertainty. We make decisions with incomplete answers, carry responsibility that doesn’t clock out, and learn - constantly - from both our successes and our mistakes.

On World Veterinary Day, I’m not celebrating perfection. I’m celebrating resilience. The long shifts, the second opinions, the emotional weight, the teamwork, the compassion that doesn’t run out even when you’re exhausted.

To every vet, nurse, tech, student, and support staff member: what you do is seen. And it matters more than you probably hear.

And to our patients: thank you for trusting us, even when you don’t understand us.

That trust is everything. 🤍

Even through loss and heartbreak, we stand strong.

🚨 Today’s Clinical Case 🚨
Meet Moqueca, a female American Bully who came to the clinic panting, refusing food, and vomiting after eating a smoked natural bone for dogs. 🦴

An X-ray revealed a foreign body in the esophagus, located in the thoracic region. We first attempted endoscopy — since it’s less invasive — but due to the size and weight of the bone, there was a high risk of severe injury. ⚠️

The solution was to perform surgery to remove it. Thanks to a prepared team and quick decision-making, Moqueca recovered well and, after 24 hours of observation, went home happy and safe. 🐶💙

💡 Reminder: Not all pets can chew or digest bones, even if they’re sold as “safe.” Always supervise and consult your veterinarian before offering one.
