Respect the Architect. The Chicago skyline is a sight to behold from the Lincoln Common garage rooftop. But the iconic, web-like trellis above the Lincoln Common Plaza is the defining architectural element of Cars at Lincoln Common. And it was designed by a gearhead. Architect Brian Lee felt the Plaza “wanted to be more than a barren auto court.” The elegant double-curved geometry of the trellis is Brian’s remedy, establishing the Lincoln Common Plaza as an activated public space. Perfect for showcasing an eclectic selection of enthusiast cars. Brian’s ‘68 Alfa Romeo 1750, ‘66 Porsche 911, and ‘63 Jaguar E-Type roadster would be right at home under the trellis at Cars at Lincoln Common. So would his daily driver, a ‘74 Ford Bronco he’s had since 1984. “Good architecture and well-designed cars share fundamental qualities,” Brian says. When we left Siracusa to drove what remains of Vincenzo Florio’s race, we approached it backwards. We came up the hills, took in all the sights as we had the view on the passenger side. There is absolutely no questioning why they chose these route for the race south of Palermo. Other highlights, storico centro parked cars in Alberobello, Taranto. and a Sunday car event in Lecce (we stumbled upon it as it was breaking up).
