I was recently thinking back to when Rae was around 4 or 5 months old and her naps were either insanely short or nonexistent. When she did sleep for longer than 15-20 minutes, it needed to be on me. So there I’d be, sitting in the darkness, needing to pee, watching Bridgerton on the lowest volume in the dark for fear of waking her, and silently freaking out about all the the things I needed to get done that I wasn’t getting done. Why wouldn’t she just nap in her crib!? If Rae would just nap in her crib, everything would be easier.

Does anyone else find it difficult to feel joy in the journey and not just want to get to the destination? This is, and always has been, a struggle for me.

Well, we got through the nap nightmares, and at 8.5 months Rae actually naps quite well in her crib most of the time. But you know what she never does anymore? Sleep on me. I spent so much time just wanting that phase to hurry up and pass. It was so, so hard. And now here I am just wanting time to slow down. Wanting to go back to those days a few months ago and embrace them. Enjoy them more. Because everything IS just a phase. And then it’s gone. And she’s growing and changing every minute of every day.

Parenting, you guys. What a trip.
