With continuing, countless imperfections and a dash of boldness inspired by my restless impatience, I am finally announcing the beginning of a personal project whose initial inspirations were alchemized by none other than my five-year-old self and her lived immigrant experience.

This project is a space for every and any person, from any culture, country and continent, who wishes to share their most intimate and sincere experiences and perspectives on what they lived. This podcast will be in both English as well as Spanish and will always be dependent on the interviewee’s language preference, in hopes of ensuring they feel as comfortable as possible when explaining these complex and intimate emotions.

I have chosen the name Hogar(es) as not only an homage to my native and deeply cherished mother-tongue, but also as a tribute to the ways that one finds their soul irreparably fissured after leaving their initial home and, in the chaos, finding a fragmented sense of home in several different parts of the world.

There are, to me, no conversations more beautiful than the ones tied to our sense of identity and belonging, and I will strive to make every episode rich in unique perspectives and genuine, human emotion.

And so, I find it only fitting that for my first post, I include a photo I found of a five-year-old me and my younger sister, clinging to our mother’s hand only months before we immigrated.

I chose to make this first picture the one to characterize and represent Hogar(es) trusting that, in its nostalgic sincerity, each person that listens to this podcast will feel their own inner child find the comfort they may have also been unknowingly been seeking for.
