In 2015 I played a @sofarsoundssf show at a local print shop in the Mission of San Francisco. I was living in Oakland and had just started pursuing music as a more serious endeavor. I was in the midst of recording my first album, Archetype and was playing around with people I still make music with today (11 years later). That was JUST after my mom's battle with terminal cancer which ended with a bone marrow transplant that saved her life! It was a huge wake up call, and honestly felt like a time of miracles.

So anyway... here I am back in the Bay after my mom recovered, playing a show at a print shop in the Mission with Patrick, Maya and Pete Egan (on keys). We were prepared to play 4 of my original songs (a SoFar standard) and by the design of these shows, neither the artists nor the audience were supposed to know who was going to be on the bill. We heard rumors it was going to be Third Eye Blind, and lo and behold when we arrived to the show it was Stephan Jenkins, doing a solo acoustic set that night.

Stephan liked our set and said that he was gonna take us on tour. A few days later I got a tweet from him saying he was being serious. This was back when Twitter was cool and TikTok didnt exist!

I had NO IDEA what the fuck I was doing, but I’m so grateful for the level-headed people in my corner who helped me prepare to go on my first-ever tour across the U.S. as Third Eye Blind’s opening act! It was me, Maya, Andrew Levin and Julian Hogan as the band.

Afterw that tour, we were invited back a few times to play with TEB in different cities; Bakersfield, NYC, and of course our shared homebase of the Bay!!! Fast forward to 10 years later...

When Stephan asked if I wanted to do this show on Monday, honoring @bottomofthehillsf in the wake of its closing, it was an obvious yes. I started reflecting on what venues provide to a city! They are the connectors, pre-internet, of artists to audiences. They will keep us alive bc I truly believe music and art will keep us alive during the AI tech apocalypse [cont in comments]
