¿Qué es una palabra? Lo que calla.

Esta escena de ‘La Chinoise’ (1967) fue grabada en la casa de Godard y su esposa Anne Wiazemsky. No es solo escenografía. Es su realidad capturada por su propio ojo.

Lo curioso es que ambos personajes están inspirados en él mismo: Guillaume es Godard como se ve a sí mismo, vulnerable, débil, artista. Véronique es quien Godard desea ser, inalcanzable, frío y revolucionario.

Godard afirmó: “Filmé a mi mujer (Anne) convirtiéndose en alguien que ya no me amaba”. Un año después, en 1968, se fue argumentando que el cine burgués tenía que terminar y dejando a Anne sola en París. Destruyó finalmente su matrimonio con la convicción y seguridad de que era un acto revolucionario.

Para Godard el amor es lo que queda cuando la política falla, cuando todo falla. Para Guillaume y Véronique amar es un problema teórico, convertir al otro en una tarea política. La ternura más plena capturada con la frialdad más teórica.
