I had tears leaking out of my eyes intermittently throughout the entire day today, while reflecting on my time at TCAF. They were tears of exhaustion, insecurity, and thankfulness, all pouring out of me after being unknowingly held in the whole weekend.

It is a very vulnerable and terrifying thing to dedicate months of your life into putting together work, when you have no idea how they will be received by people separate from yourself. I continue to cry over how extremely grateful I am to have had so many friends visit me and say that they are proud to see me standing behind a table covered by my humbly printed projects and visibly handmade decor.

Thank you to everyone that paused to read my comics and lit up when I began to explain what I had drawn. I've learned a lot about where my work sits in the grand scheme of art and storytelling and how I need to keep trusting in my unexplainable, out-of-the-blue ideas and making them real.

This year I also had the opportunity to be one of twelve judges for the 2026 Doug Wright Awards and it was just as fun and inspiring as I'd imagined it would be. Thank you Conan for granting me this experience, and thank you to my fellow judges for asking for my opinions and valuing them despite me having nowhere near as much comics expertise. I think there are few things that excite me as much as comics do, and I'm deeply honoured to be at all associated with this medium.

I am going to rest and regroup and head back to the drawing board to actualize some comics that my brain refuses to let go of. Thank you for supporting me, I am very, very lucky. 💘

UPSTATE! The greatest comic series ever set in the forgotten tundra of Upstate New York! Celebrate the release of the 5th issue on Friday June 5, with book readings by Stephen Pellnat (Upstate), joined by Quinn Amacher and Emilie Kelly. Great readers and good vibes guaranteed!

Upstate follows Ryan Essen, a 31 year old in 2018, returning to her childhood home in the fictional Hudson Valley town of Heinrichville, New York. Her father is dying, her home is changing, and like so many millennials, she feels like the best years of her life are far behind her.

In the latest issue of Stephen Pellnat’s series, a German veteran of the First World War arrives in the early American twentieth century, distant from even himself. An unexamined life echoes forward in time, through an entire family; its present day iteration afflicted by patterns of behavior that are not quite the same, not quite different. Overlapping shades of the generational and the personal coalesce as the Upstate Winter Cycle draws to a close.

WHO: Stephen Pellnat, Quinn Amacher, Emilie Kelly
WHAT: UPSTATE #5 release party and book reading
WHEN: Friday June 5, 5pm
WHERE: Floating World Comics, 1223 Lloyd Center

Had the best time at Reed Zine Fest!
There were so many amazing booths and lovely people this year and I am so happy I got to chat and trade and meet so many kind people.
Also got to hear the lovely BrattyxBre speak which was so fun bc she is a big part of why I got into zines to begin with 🖤
I tried to tag all of the lovely people I got things from but if I couldn’t find or forgot anyone please let me know I would be so happy to add them!
