Bird of the week ~ Starling 🖤✨

That bird you might overlook in the garden… but have you ever really looked at one? 👀

Fun facts ~

•Starlings can mimic other birds, sounds and even human noises! 🌿

•Their feathers are covered in beautiful iridescent colours, especially in breeding season 🌿

•They gather in huge flocks called murmurations, creating those incredible shapes in the sky 🌿

• A typical clutch contains 4–6 eggs 🌿

💬 Tell me: Are you a fan of starling murmurations, or have you managed to capture one on camera?

Delighted to be onsite this Saturday at Titchfield haven, this was my first local nature reserve I went to as a young birder back in the 1970s, a fabulous place.
I will have a full range of optics for you to try before you buy, binoculars, scopes, monocular and tripods.
I look forward to seeing you there. 👋

If you live in or close to Swindon and you need some optics.
Go to T4 cameras and meet Bruce and his team. A fabulous selection

Bird of the week ~ Stonechat

A little bird often spotted perched proudly on gorse bushes, fence posts and brambles, keeping an eye on absolutely everything🧡

Fun facts ~

• The male has a striking orange-red breast, black head and white patches on his neck 🌿

• They’re named after their call! Their call sounds a bit like two stones being tapped together ~ “chak-chak!” 🌿

• They catch insects, spiders and other small invertebrates, often darting down from their perch to grab a snack 🌿

• Tough little birds! Many stay in the UK all year round, although some move to milder areas during colder weather 🌿

👀 Beth’s bird nerd tip: Look out for them on heathland, coastal scrub and rough grassland. Once you spot one, keep watching as they're often back on the same perch in no time!

Have you spotted a Stonechat recently? And are you team bright-orange male or the beautifully subtle female? 🧡
