BRICK&GRIT PRESENTS VILE

Portuguese graffiti artist VILE transforms walls through perspective, shadow and hyperrealistic lettering, creating the illusion that solid surfaces have been cut open.

A distinctive visual language where graffiti meets architecture.

Portuguese graffiti artist Vile paints his name so it looks like a hole in a solid wall. Using shading and painted scenery, he makes his letters seem to open onto plants, sky and imagined spaces. His murals appear on abandoned buildings and outdoor stairways, shown here finished and alongside their original walls.

Taking graffiti beyond the flat surface. 7 writers pushing letters into the third dimension, bending perspective, depth, and reality. Who would you add to the list?

🎭Vile paints his name onto walls and makes them look as though they’ve been opened up. The Portuguese artist uses spray paint, carefully matched perspective, and convincing shadows to turn the letters VILE into apparent cutouts, revealing a painted view beyond the surface.

He began painting graffiti at fourteen, later studying animation and illustration in Lisbon. His lettering plays a clever trick on the idea of leaving a mark, the more precisely he paints, the more the wall seems to disappear.

Save this for a closer look at where the paint meets the illusion.

portuguese graffiti artist vile paints his name onto walls in a way that makes them look see-through. using spray paint, he creates letters that appear carved into the concrete, with plants, sky and surrounding scenery visible inside them. the wall stays intact, but the depth and detail make it look like parts of it are missing.
