As most of you know, I zigzag in all mediums from painting and textiles to photographs, and more. Here at my “Salon So-long” hang at #TheReceivingRoomATL is one of my favorite prints by @nathlie.provosty and @ulaestudio of her iconic misaligned imagery — those paintings are stellar in person.

Beneath is an oil painting commish from a young artist @visakhajane who taps into her Thai background to tell stories on canvas. I asked to recreate a smaller scale version of a much larger painting. Thankfully she obliged.

Dream Sequence (2018)
Intaglio in 2 colors
on Revere Ivory Suede paper / No. 15 of 20
17 x 13 3/4 in. (43 x 35 cm) / found frame

Visakha Jane Phillips
Yellow Sky II (2024)
20x20”
Oil, charcoal and oil stick on canvas / Jane was named among ATL’s four finalists in this year’s Edge Award.

So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, goodbye.

Some of you already know that we’re making changes as Alex sunsets into retirement. We’re selling the house and returning to our condo in Midtown West. Which means, adios to The Receiving Room ATL (insert tear).

While feeling a bit sentimental, all good things must come to an end.

That said, I’m really excited to share my last install, “Salon…So Long!” It’s an ode to beloved artwork — old and new — that I couldn’t leave without featuring their work in my at-home curatorial project. Trust me, there were many more works I wished I could have squeezed in but had to edit.

As for what’s next, who knows? But for now, please enjoy my final hang … a lot of nice conversations happening.

Oh no…tagging limitations. Sorry.

Our interview with @wabecitylights is live! Featuring Living Walls’ Executive Director @monicaxcampana and Curator of the ‘I Am Mine / We Are Ours’ mural exhibition @drewborders.art 🥹

"A new mural series organized by Living Walls beautifies the walls of the underpass at Arizona and Dekalb Avenue in Edgewood.

‘I Am Mine / We Are Ours’ is the title of the six-mural collection by local women and non-binary artists, exploring themes of self-love and how our surroundings shape identity.

On Monday, Living Walls executive director Monica Campana and curator Drew Borders join ‘City Lights’ host Lois Reitzes to discuss the project in-depth."

…and then there were two “Yellow Sky” paintings by ATL-based Bard grad @visakhajane

After seeing (and loving it) the larger version at her Mint show last year, it’s been on my mind ever since. I finally asked if she could recreate a smaller version. A few months later here it is...ecstatic to add the work to #tmartathome

Yellow Sky II (2024)
Oil, charcoal and oil stick on canvas
20” X 20”

It’s from an autobiographical series of works that synthesize her memories and incidents that took place at her grandma’s house in Thailand. Love her gutsy bold color choice and for the faces painted in color…well, it’s just that. #visakhajanephillips
