I’m still in disbelief as I hold this diploma in my hand, thinking of how far I’ve come. Finally, I’ve started learning how to be proud of myself and celebrate my accomplishments.

As a 13-year-old coming from a third-world country, I had no idea the opportunities and adventures I would encounter. They have been nothing short of amazing. The best decision I ever made was blindly joining the military; leaving my hometown was how I discovered myself and what I was truly capable of. The struggles I’ve endured have not been for nothing… they were the price to be able to enjoy exactly where I am now.

Even though I’ve worked hard for this diploma, the house we just bought, and all these other blessings, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without a strong support system… we all need one. It’s because of my mom and sisters’ unconditional love, my lovely fiancé, my wonderful daughter, and the best friends I could ask for that I am able to stand here today and proudly hold this diploma.

One of the most sincere compliments I received as I graduated was: “People talk about physical makeovers. You have had a mental makeover that far exceeds any other I have seen!!” Many people know the struggles I went through, but I’m grateful I was never alone. I was able to overcome them and grow stronger, and I finally see that transformation in myself.

Being married for 9 years, we’ve learned a few things - about ourselves and each other. We’ve also learned that your ego has to die a few times to become the next, best version of yourself.

@_katiefiler and I have been through ‘2-3’ marriages already, and there’s nothing we love more than celebrating others’ love, and getting to watch those we care about find their first (or second…) marriage too.

Last weekend was one of the best, most honest, vulnerable expressions of love we’ve ever been a part of; and we’re grateful to the FRamily who made it happen.
