Norway is 100,000 km of coastline and roughly the population of Bengaluru.

Five and a half million people. More coast than any country on earth except Canada, once you count the fjords and the islands. Most of it has nobody standing on it.

Ten places, south to north:
🏙️ Oslo — the Opera House roof is a public plaza. You walk up the building.
🪨 Trolltunga — 28 km round trip, ten hours, 700 m of air under your feet. Unguided only 15 June to 15 September.
🌧️ Bergen — it rains 239 days a year. Everyone goes anyway.
⛲ Geirangerfjord — 260 m deep, walls to 1,600 m. The farms on those ledges were abandoned in 1918 and still have no road.
🎨 Ålesund — burned down in 1904, rebuilt in Art Nouveau in three years flat.
🌊 Atlantic Ocean Road — 8.3 km, eight bridges, twelve hurricanes during construction.
🎣 Lofoten — white sand and turquoise water at 68° N. The water is 6 °C.
🌌 Tromsø — the sun sets in late November and doesn't come back until January.

For anyone planning this from India: Norway is Schengen but not EU. Visa is about €90 plus VFS fees, 15 working days standard, longer in peak season — apply six weeks out, and you can apply up to six months ahead. No direct flights, so you're connecting through Doha, Dubai, Helsinki or Istanbul.

Aurora season is late September to late March. Right now is the start of it.

LOFOTEN • DAY 1 🇳🇴

Primo giorno alla scoperta delle Lofoten e abbiamo già capito una cosa: qui ogni strada merita una sosta. 🤍

Abbiamo iniziato dallo SKREI, per conoscere più da vicino la storia della pesca e del merluzzo che da secoli scandisce la vita di queste isole, per poi raggiungere Henningsvær, uno dei villaggi più iconici delle Lofoten. 🎣

Casette colorate, ponti sospesi tra mare e montagne, piccoli café e quell’atmosfera nordica che ci piace già tantissimo.

E siamo solo all’inizio… ✨

Well, everything we do feels better❤️🐾
This song takes me back to younger years, when I travelled a lot abroad.
Back in the days before the internet and smartphones, I found myself in Thailand with a group of friends. Without knowing what was going on, we woke up to Songkran. If you don’t know what that is, look it up. It’s the Thai New Year, celebrated with the biggest water fight imaginable, literally everywhere.
They played this song, and the album it’s on, in the streets that day.
One of my fondest memories.
But it still pales in comparison to the adventures Yoshi and I have had together in the Norwegian backcountry and mountains the last couple of years.
These pictures were taken this fall on our last trip of this season. We visited Lofoten and hiked Stornappstind, after it was recommended to us by hikers we met last year.
Absolutely amazing location, and the sun was out all day too.
The sea fog came and went around the northwest side of the mountain throughout the day, but mostly spared us at the summit. It made for an extra layer of excitement, though.
How lucky are we to be able to have experiences like this together.

Reine, poco oltre Hamnoy è spettacolare per il suo panorama d'insieme, per le colline aguzze dei monti che la circoscrivono e per il monte Reinenbringen, su cui, percorrendo 2000 scalini si può salire per avere una vista mozzafiato (no, noi non ci siamo avventurati per il tempo piovoso e per i 2000 scalini 😅)

Arriviamo in quello che sarà il nostro alloggio per la notte, addentandonci in una stradina stretta, mentre piove, alle porte del paesino di #sørvågen

Quello che vediamo all'arrivo al #langebua rorbu non lo potrò dimenticare: una palafitta rossa sul mare circondato dai monti, i gabbiani che ci volano attorno e cantano, mentre le nuvole sovrastano le punte delle montagne.
La grande finestra che guarda questo paesaggio che mi toglie il fiato, è il miglior panorama per la nostra cena e la colazione dell'indomani.
Penso che ho scelto bene: chi se ne importa se il cielo è grigio, se piove, e le nuvole girano creando un'atmosfera surreale, se si può ammirare una tale bellezza, al cospetto di un luogo autentico, che pare fuori dal tempo, e di una natura che imperversa e ti avvolge?
Anche tutto questo fa parte del viaggio. E della meraviglia delle Lofoten.
Questi sono i momenti di non trascurabile felicità❤️
