La comida peruana es un poquito de todo: lo prehispánico, lo indígena, lo africano, algo que trajeron los europeos y un toque de oriente después de varias migraciones. Todo revuelto en el mismo plato. 🇵🇪😍

Aquí un poquito de su historia.

De nuevo gracias @visitperu #VisitPeru

📍 welcome to machu picchu, peru 🇵🇪

one of those places that genuinely doesn’t feel real until you’re standing in front of it.

built by the incas in the 15th century, this ancient citadel sits high in the andes, surrounded by mountains and clouds. no matter how many photos you’ve seen, nothing quite prepares you for seeing it in person.

to know before you go:

🎟️ tickets: book in advance through the official government website, tuboleto.cultura.pe. there are different circuits and routes, so make sure you choose the one that includes the views and areas you want to see.

🚂 getting there: most visitors take the train to aguas calientes, followed by a shuttle bus up to the entrance. you can also arrive via a trekking route.

⏰ best time: early morning can be magical with the mist rolling through the mountains, but remember that clouds can temporarily hide the famous view!

📸 my biggest tip: don’t rush the experience just to get the perfect photo. take a moment to put your phone down and actually appreciate where you are.

save this for your peru bucket list and share it with the person you’d visit machu picchu with 🤎

Comment PERU for our full 9 day Peru with kids itinerary!

I took my 7-year-old on a mother son trip to Peru with @intrepidtravel to see one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, and Machupicchu wasn’t even his favourite part. @visitperu

That’s the thing about Peru. Everyone books it for Machupicchu, and then you get there and realise the country has about six trips packed inside it. There’s so much variety!

🌿 Two days off grid in the Amazon, hunting tarantulas by flashlight and spotting caiman from a boat in the dark. He says it’s the best place he’s ever been.

🎶 Made our own pan flutes on a rooftop in Cusco with a local musician

🪨 Slid down ancient Inca rock slides at Sacsayhuamán

🦙Visited a female artisan community in the Sacred Valley who showed us traditional weaving and wool dying techniques

🚲 Biked the clifftops above the Pacific in Lima

🚂 Then took the train through the cloud forest to Machupicchu, which he gave 67 thumbs up

We did all of it on a family tour with @intrepidtravel alongside 2 other families, so every flight, train, entry ticket and transfer was handled and I got to just be present with my kid for nine days, and he also got some kids to play with.

I wrote up our whole nine-day itinerary on the blog, day by day, with everything I’d want to know before booking Peru with kids.

Comment PERU and I’ll send it to you!

Here we go then, some Machu Picchu photos. I can hold back the baying hordes at my door....no more.

These are a mix of early morning photos - when we were one of the first groups inside - only to be faced with a complete white out. After a human sacrifice the clouds did start to shift and created a very moody cinematic vibe.
I also went back for sunset with few crowds and top golden hour lighting ( pictures 1, 2, 6, 7)
