🎬 WHAT AN INCREDIBLE YEAR! 🎥❤️

The 4th Annual Pottstown Film Festival was everything we hoped it would be and MORE! Three incredible days celebrating independent filmmaking, amazing talent, and the power of storytelling right in Pottstown, PA!

We kicked things off Friday night with the incredibly talented Kate Flannery! Most know her as Meredith from The Office, but Kate has had an amazing career spanning decades. We screened her heartfelt new film, How Hard Can It Be?, following an unforgettable 45-minute Q&A about her life, career, and upcoming memoir, Overserved: The Lucky Life of the Office Drunk. Kate was funny, gracious, inspiring, and everything we could have hoped for!

Saturday was packed with incredible filmmaking! We started with an outstanding student film block, followed by a special screening of Aqueduct from director Travis Burgess, and an industry panel with Travis, producer Josh Kusnar, who flew in from LA, and myself. Josh also had his award-winning animated short, Braving the Night, featured in the festival!

The festival continued with an incredible lineup of films, including No One Cares About Crazy People, narrated by Bob Odenkirk.

A highlight was screening Displacement, a film I made nearly 20 years ago with my late friend Matthew Berardi. Sharing it in his honor meant everything. ❤️

We closed with Blood & Guts, which won Best Documentary, followed by Sunday’s inspiring films and awards ceremony.

Thank you to every filmmaker, attendee, sponsor, volunteer, supporter, the Rivet team, our festival board, and the people of Pottstown. Bringing independent film to my hometown is an honor.

Four years in, we’re just getting started. Here’s to making 2027 even bigger and better! 🎬🍿

See you at the movies! ❤️

🚨 HEY POTTSTOWN! 🚨SPECIAL SCREENING 🚨

🎬 20 YEARS LATER. A FILM. A FRIEND TO REMEMBER.

Tonight at 8 PM, the Pottstown Film Festival will present a special screening of DISPLACEMENT, a special screening of a festival founder and director Kyle Klaus earliest projects nearly 20 years ago.

This screening is especially meaningful as we honor friend and the film’s director, Matthew Berardi, who unexpectedly passed away last month.

DISPLACEMENT represents the true spirit of independent filmmaking.

“We had no money. We borrowed equipment, created our own special effects, recruited friends and family as cast and crew, and spent money we didn’t have on editing and equipment. Somehow, through it all, we got the film finished and in front of an audience.”

“We didn’t have a budget. We had a vision, a group of friends, and the determination to make a movie.”

Twenty years later, we get to bring it back to the big screen to celebrate what was created and, more importantly, honor Matt’s life, creativity, and friendship, and experience during those formative years. ❤️

Reach out to me personally if you have questions and for discounts on festival passes - Kyle @kyleklaus

DISPLACEMENT Film Synopsis: What if you could not distinguish the dream world from the real world? Maerd is displaced somewhere in between. As Maerd’s world unravels before his eyes, he is sent on a downward spiral into the unknown.

SPOTLIGHT FILM! 🍿🎥🎬

11:30 am Saturday Oct 10th
*Filmmaker Attending

Synopsis and Significance:

In Aqueduct, two half-brothers who have never met are brought together by the death of the father they
never shared. Set against the charged, unpredictable world of the racetrack, buried truths surface and
tensions sharpen, forcing them into a reckoning neither asked for. It’s about inheritance without
intimacy and identities shaped in absence. It asks a simple but urgent question: what can an older brother
pass on to a younger one before his time runs out?

BACKGROUND

The film was shot at the historic Aqueduct Racetrack, a place that has been part of New York’s sporting
and cultural history (Where the Big Apple got its name) for 132 years, and the setting for some of horse
racing’s most memorable moments. Secretariat raced there, as did Seabiscuit and American Pharoah.
With the track scheduled for demolition, preserving a snapshot of Aqueduct as it was in 2026 became a
deeply personal project.
It took eighteen months of phone calls and emails to convince the New York Racing Association to let us
shoot. When they finally agreed to meet with me, they mentioned that the last filmmaker they had
allowed to shoot there was Martin Scorsese for The Irishman, charging a location fee of $200,000 for the
day. Standing with the Communications Director in a freight elevator, I joked, “I was thinking more like
zero dollars... and my entire crew fits in this elevator.” Struggles of an indie filmmaker.

I told them that preserving history often works best through narrative films, and that I wanted to
capture what Aqueduct looked and felt like before it was gone. Thankfully, they gave us that
opportunity.
From The New York Times to New York Nico, the AP, and The Guardian, many have recognized the
track’s cultural significance. I felt a responsibility to preserve a small piece of it.

“I Heard You Calling”, was inspired by actual events and is based on (a true Life Journal that tells) the genuine love story of a local Philadelphia area couple - Al and Linda Filippone. The high school sweethearts married in 1975 and started a well-known wedding photography business out of Springfield, PA. After struggling for years, the couple adopted a beautiful baby girl. They named her Annamarie (the name ‘Mallory’ was used in the film). The family’s picture-perfect life took a tragic turn when Linda’s life was cut short on February 18, 2024, after losing a 2 1/2 year battle against cancer. The film follows a now elderly and frail Al, a widower determined to hold on to the warmth and solace of a lifetime of beautiful memories with his first, only, and eternal love - Linda. As Al begins to navigate the difficult process of grief and loss, he suffers a stroke. Mallory, the couple’s only daughter, tries her best to help her father while silently grieving her mother and fearing that she will someday be left alone. Through moments of inexplicable light, surreal flashbacks, and subtle miracles, Linda reaches out to guide her husband and daughter along their intertwined yet separate journeys. Linda gives Mallory the strength she needs to make peace with her father and face life’s inevitable course. With this accomplished, Linda can finally call her husband ‘home.’ As the couple reunites, Al acknowledges, “I Heard You Calling.”
