When people think of winter trips, they immediately jump to cold and snow or hot and beachy. But what about those of us who want somewhere in the middle? Personally, I find Savannah the best off-season destination: It’s balmy at 70 right now (and no humidity!), green year-round and the attractions never close, unlike places like Iceland that operate very seasonally.

Do you want to maximize your trips? I Flew into Charleston and drove over to Savannah and Atlanta last week.

If I’m flying to a city, I’m already planing to visit places at upto a 3 hr radius from that city. Below are some tips on how you can do the most too:

1. Get a late night or red-eye flight if you can. Just a way to get a whole day to begin with at your destination.

2. Rent a car - this is an absolute must. You basically are giving away control of your time if you choose public transportation.

3. Drive to the farthest location at start of your trip and make you way back. This is just a way to preserve your energy. Hate to say it but you do get fatigued towards the end of trips and don’t want to have to do the longer drives then.

4. Purchase tickets (if any of your spots needs them) in advance so you’re not wasting time waiting on any lines.

5. To go meals are great! Im actually not very particular about where I have my meals during travel. I try to do my research on the destination’s special foods ahead of time so I know where to go. Get your reservations earlier if you need them.

6. This last one’s for my IGers who care about the aesthetics of their photos. Look at some photos online ahead of what the place looks like and try visualizing your pose. Also coordinate your style with colors to create some contrast. I can talk more about this in a separate post if there’s interest…
