NEW PRINTING GROUND: A European made, eco-friendly PVC-Free alternative to Type II vinyl with a smooth surface and luxe matte finish. Developed for high-traffic commercial and residential projects, this material is highly durable, tear and scratch-resistant, and cleanable with a bleach and water solution. This was the ideal material for the expansive custom mural that we produced for the active foyer of @gardinerhousenpt in Newport, Rhode Island.

Scaling a delicate mural hand-painted in 1905 on the walls of a historic, Gilded Age family home into an expansive mural for a new construction hotel lobby required deep collaboration from the early stages of construction through the final installation.

Howard Cushing, the great-grandson of the great American Impressionist artist of the same name, tasked us with this very assignment - bring this magical feature of his childhood home to the walls of the hotel he was building a few blocks away in Newport, Rhode Island.

Our process of reimagining the mural to perfectly fit the complex lobby and multi-story staircase walls blended archival digitization, rigorous digital artistry and layout engineering and our own team’s hand painting skills. The result is a historic Gilded Age experience built for modern commercial durability printed on our eco-friendly Type II Non-Woven Wallcovering material.

Just returned to Italy from the U.S. Shipped this guy to a friend’s studio in Connecticut a year ago. Good to be reunited after so long. I was 90% finished, so I gave myself a month to get to 100%. With fresh eyes, I could see clearly what needed to change. Some quick but dramatic work on the face and beard.

I anonymized the figure. Without a name, he could become something larger. He is A Deity. A symbol of power and authority, but not infallibility. He is also broken.

While I was there, I had the fortune of being photographed by @viskohatfield . Thanks for the great shots.

Thank you, Nate Freeman, for highlighting our Matisse exhibition in @vanityfair’s guide of art to see in Manhattan right now!

He writes:

“The attendees at the British Museum cocktail party, surrounded by masterworks of 20th-century art, couldn’t help but gush about one single gallery show on view in New York City. That would be “Matisse: The Pursuit of Harmony” at Acquavella Galleries on the Upper East Side. The multigenerational art-dealing family has sold many Matisses throughout the decades, and borrowed many of them back for an exhibition that’s basically unheard of these days at a commercial gallery. There are 50 works. One hundred people can be inside at one time. Nothing is for sale.

Walking up 79th Street on Thursday morning, I saw a line down the stairs that extended most of the way to the Park. I don’t know how to convey how strange that is-for an exhibition of an Impressionist painter at a townhouse gallery off Madison to have a Banksy-esque line of influencer-status length.

Inside, in the first gallery, is Odalisque couché aux magnolias. It’s a stunner that was last seen in public when it sold for $80.75 million at Christie’s, consigned by the estate of Peggy and David Rockefeller.”
