Thank you to everyone who joined us at @metarage.bxl on February 27 to mark 50 years of the Sahrawi Republic - five decades of resistance, displacement, and unwavering hope.

As the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic marks 50 years of existence under occupation, exile, and resistance, we came together to shed light on a struggle that remains too often overlooked.
Together, we watched “Life Is Waiting: Referendum and Resistance in Western Sahara,” a powerful reflection on a people’s long struggle for self-determination.

Our speakers @emmalehb , spokesperson of the Sahrawi diaspora in Germany, and El Mahjoub Maliha, Head of External Relations at @codesa_so1 , who shed light on the systemic “resource grab.” We learned how the illegal exploitation of phosphate, energy, and maritime resources by foreign companies fuels the occupation, turning Sahrawi land into a profit centre for others while its rightful owners remain in exile.

Beyond the panel, we also shared a moment of collective creation through the workshop inspired by “For Every Mine, a Flower”, the artistic resistance project led by Mohamed Yeslem. By crafting paper flowers, we echoed a powerful message: transforming spaces marked by violence, such as the landmines scattered along the 2,700 km Moroccan-built sand wall, into symbols of life, dignity, and hope.

This evening was a reminder that solidarity begins with awareness, but must not end there.
We invite you to continue reflecting:
What does solidarity with the Sahrawi people look like today?
How can we challenge the systems that sustain occupation and resource exploitation?
And how do we ensure that struggles like this are not pushed to the margins?
Let’s keep learning, sharing, and acting — together.

A huge thanks to everyone who participated and to Jon for this incredible video! @visolume

I recorded a few songs with some friend in my old apartment a while back.

I posted my song ‘Little Yellow Sock’ from this session before the album release, now here’s another one while you all patiently wait for your vinyls and cassettes: ‘Colourfornia’ is one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written and I’m sure I’ll still be playing it for years and years to come.
