Last year, we had the honor of filming retired Oregon Supreme Court Justice Lynn Nakamoto for "Sansei Sensibility."

In her interview, Justice Nakamoto helps us understand what the law says about the Alien Enemies Act — and why its history still matters today. Her clarity, perspective, and deep legal insight brought an essential layer to the film as we explore Japanese American history, memory, and the ongoing consequences of laws shaped by fear.

Behind-the-scenes photography by Martin Van Londen.

Huge thanks to our Production Assistant Olivia Kuchela for helping make the day run smoothly.

Special thanks to James Allen and Visual Aid Inc. for their generous support.

Super proud of my grad school cohort and everyone who helped make the documentary happen!

"Helpers" is a compelling documentary that weaves director Kelly Clendenon's brutally honest account of recovering from heroin addiction, incarceration, and homelessness with the inspiring work of the 13 Salmon Shower Project, a volunteer-driven program located in downtown Portland.

The film addresses the twin crises of fentanyl addiction and homelessness, told through the lens of Kelly's personal journey and some of the people working on the front lines in Portland - featuring music by Fugazi.

WINNER: Best Social Documentary
WINNER: Best Student Film

One year ago I casually signed up for acting class at @thestudionw. Thanks to the vibrant and caring community there, I’ve booked over a dozen on set jobs, from background talent on three films to principal roles for organic social content, digital shorts, industrials, and TV spots. I even cried real tears playing a patient suffering from chronic pain. I love acting. It makes me a better parent, friend, colleague and person. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey with me. What will 2024 bring? 🥂

Absolutely gorgeous day on set yesterday with all of these wonderfully talented humans. This particular branded shoot marks a 4 year anniversary for me coming on as a freelancer with this agency and I couldn’t be happier about it. They are filled with incredible people who care and are dedicated to creating a work environment for folks to thrive in their creativity. I’ve met many of my favorite people in the industry through working with them. Thank you @visualaidinc, I’m super grateful for you!! @baumanfarms @pancake_lighting @creamsource
