POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Our students created some great images for their first assignment in PHT309 - Location Lighting: Events and Portraits! This assignment consisted of having students mix natural light and artificial light in a single image. This can help the subject pop and give some more depth and visual interest in an image.

Ever wonder what really happens during a family photo session?

Here’s a little behind the scenes... 📸

We get the group photos done efficiently so that we have time to have some fun too. Some of the best photographs happen in between the poses—the split-second hug, the giggle after a funny face, or the way your child instinctively reaches for your hand.

During my family sessions on Cape Cod, my goal isn’t just to take beautiful pictures. It’s to create a relaxed experience where everyone can be themselves. When you’re comfortable, genuine moments naturally unfold, and those are the memories you’ll treasure for years to come.

Take a peek into the truly silly world of a Salty Broad Studjos family portrait and see how those heartfelt moments come to life. ❤️

If you’re dreaming of a family session on Cape Cod, I’d love to help tell your story.

Just a little glimpse into all that goes into our newborn sessions at Salty Broad Studios. My dear friend and certified doula, Laura, is on every shoot to soothe and swaddle baby. We collaborate on set designs and poses. The lighting, composing, props and cozy setting supplied by yours truly.

Newborn sessions are not for the faint of heart. It takes a lot of patience and a passion for detail. It’s takes a lot of planning and team coordination to do it right.

At Salty Broad Studios, parents can choose between observing the session or relaxing on the couch in my lounge. We take pride in keeping both the newborns and new parents cozy and relaxed.

Vaughn - my summer photo intern 🩷

I first met Vaughn last November at her mom’s wedding at Wychmere Beach Club, and I had no idea then what an important part of my summer she’d become. This year, she joined me as my intern, and what a gift she was.
Officially, Vaughn was my photography assistant. Unofficially, she was my veil tosser, behind-the-scenes photo taker, dress fixer, lighting assistant, water, protein shake & battery fetcher, bag carrier, and just about anything else you can imagine. Always one step ahead, always thoughtful, and always making wedding days lighter, smoother, and more fun.
One of my favorite memories was during a surprise proposal—we were “pretending” to be in the same spot taking senior portraits, which gave me the perfect excuse to grab a few portraits of her, too. She’s not just talented, she’s also such a beautiful soul inside and out.
I’m sad to see her head back to school, but I’m also so proud of her as she begins her sophomore year at Endicott College in their four-year photography program. Vaughn, thank you for everything this summer—you’ve become not only an amazing part of the team, but a true friend for life.
