The primordial soup theory, introduced to me in my biochemistry class this term, essentially theorizes that life began 3.7-4 billion years ago from a soup of organic molecules that were able to spontaneously form the building blocks of life (proteins, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, and lipids) after being blasted randomly with lightning or UV rays. Wow, feels just like yesterday! With components such as water vapor, ammonia, hydrogen, and of course methane, units of life were able to form and now, many many years down the line, people who exist from this incredible probabilistic event inject shady peptides ordered from China with far less reputable origin points. Wow, how far we’ve come! If this seems high improbable, I implore you to read up on the Miller-Urey Experiment for the former and watch a stream from Clavicular for the latter! How does this story tie into the açaí bowl on your screen now? Let’s blast to the future! Hanover has an interesting proposition in which a chain restaurant may not open in our poorly labeled downtown area if it directly competes with an already existing establishment. I guess they forgot that the Brazilian bakery in town already sells açaí, but we were all pleasantly surprised to find out that Playa Bowls was opening in town! Following an exhaustive hike, in which we discussed baby names for boys and physics grievances, ate salami that had touched the bare bottom of a backpack, and stared pensively at what I now know to be a circling group of vultures, we had the genius idea to replenish the carbohydrates in our bodies with açaí. And so off we went. After dropping $13.00 on an açaí coconut yogurt blend bowl (?), we sat outside in the cold and commenced communion. Vying for the next scoop on top was banana granola, strawberries, blueberries, and just the most darling dollop of coconut whip. Vidi vici veni! I ate. I got a brain freeze. I debated the integrity of storing the remaining açaí in my freezer. Looking at my half melted açaí, I was reminded of the origins of life, prompting the discussion for today’s post. The diversity of bowl options opened my eyes to the diversity of life we have on this planet. Many blessings upon all!
