ROYAL ROCOCO

‘When you explore the past, you enter the future,” Vivienne once expressed. Her 18th century-inspired corsets and references to historical silhouettes throughout her career served as evidence of her admiration for English culture. From her first collection (1981’s Pirates), which wowed audiences with its focus on 18th century dandies and indigenous Americans, to her Winter 1987/88 collection that showcased the iconic Westwood Harris Tweed, Vivienne was always known as a designer who saw the importance of pushing boundaries and preserving history.

In 2006 her contribution to British Fashion was officially recognized when she was appointed Dame of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth Il, who by that time was rumored to be a big fan of designer. She continued to work simultaneously in fashion and activism up until her death on December 29th, 2022.
