BUNKR – Signs
VLSI Records 2026
BUNKR, the stage alias of UK artist James Dean, returns with another sonic chapter in the form of the recently issued EP Signs, continuing explorations begun with Signals (VLSI Records, 2026). The four-track EP looks beyond the earlier homage to the Surrey Hills and its mysteries. With Signs, Dean delivers a concise and highly palpable nocturnal aural landscape, carrying distinct echoes of 1990s ambient dub and chillout music.
Projecting a distant cityscape and its illuminated activities, the EP explores the spaces in between, shifting focus from the material toward the atmospheric and ephemeral. Guised as an early-morning chillout ambient dance release, its four tracks are elegant and concise, structured with surgical precision yet imbued with the warmth of the sun emerging at dawn and the palpable relief of a new day approaching.
Signs finds BUNKR at his strongest, offering some of his finest work to date and an eloquent counterpart to the earlier Signals release.

A sea of grey that arrives before the coastline decides to be there, then a planet that kept the heating off.
Side A fogs the unlit lighthouse, files the middle of nowhere under the average of the average, watches a building take the hint, holds its breath in a Marienbad corridor that will not let you leave, asks if it is conscious now at the altitude where the light stops answering, and leaves the missing puzzle piece missing. Side B keeps the silent water from rippling on cue, leaves wormcasts on the lawn as agriculture and omen, notices the getaway too late and closes the car door very softly, skims a stone across a garden pond that remembers Atlantis, approaches a curve it is never allowed to touch, and dims the cabin lights on a cold planet with a bowl left by the airlock.
Overall mood: Contemplative, slightly uneasy, and quietly unfinished — full of silent rooms, almost-arrivals, and maps that share a shoreline they should not. Perfect for dusk listening, corridors that will not end, or sitting still while the lotus holds its breath for the title of the night.#trevladsounds #electronicmusic #ambientmusic #spacemusic #mixcloud

Side B opens eternal cities, stirs a storm in a water-glass, presses a dystopian button, walks Verona’s water, swells with tide, and ends in soft cyber-space pulses.#spacemusic #ambientmusic #trevladsounds

BUNKR - This Side Of Forever
Signals (VLSI 2026)

Signals is the 4th album and latest addition to the BUNKR oeuvre.

I was listening to a lot of early hardcore rave and jungle music during the production process which definitely fed into utilising more breakbeats on the tracks here. It turned out alright I think.

BUNKR - Ceres Outpost
Antenne (VLSI 2024)

Antenne, the third BUNKR LP, paid homage to the once great pirate radio stations that dominated the FM dial throughout the ‘90s. One such faceless station (which we dubbed Antenne) transmitted an endless broadcast of widescreen techno, breakbeats, ambient washes and occasional forays into obscure German synth music.

Who or what was behind Antenne we may never know; without doubt the unknown makes it all the more alluring. Antenne transmitted and informed, we listened and absorbed.

BUNKR - Graveyard Orbit
Graveyard Orbit (VLSI 2021)

Second albums have a rep for being difficult to write, but I luckily found the opposite to be the case. Graveyard Orbit came together fairly quickly, possibly due to the fact that Covid had us all locked down with not a lot else to do.

The graveyard orbit, also known as a junk or disposal orbit, lies far away from common operational orbits and is where satellites are moved to at the end of their operational life, endlessly circling space with no use or purpose.
