Would You Rather
Dir. Sophie O’Donovan
Screened as part of my remote press coverage for Final Girls Berlin Film Festival.

This short from Writer Director Sophie O’Donovan leans into several themes surrounding mental and emotional wellbeing. We see our lead, Sadhbh, is beyond the point of exhaustion and yearning to rekindle friendships. Yet this is anything but a welcoming or safe environment. There’s a hive-mind mentality at play with this group and a feeling that no matter how hard they try, Sadhbh will never belong. It makes you question if that kinship was there to begin with.

Visually the film is wrought with emotion, building on moody lighting and camera work that crawls towards it’s intended focus point. We’re met with an unsettling score filled with strings that ebb at you subconsciously.

I enjoyed the unsettling tone of Would You Rather, playing on social anxieties many of us experience at times and providing that satisfying blow of insanity that ultimately leads to an emotionally upsetting end. This short plays on your nerves for the whole duration and is a must see for those who enjoy psychological filmmaking.

I’d like to thank the team at Final Girls Berlin for the opportunity to review this.

2024? Completed it m8 ✅
.
Tbh, 20 slides isn’t enough to sum up this year. So many memories, from a sold out Whelans with our boys @jetfuelchemistry, the release of Volume Two and a sell out headline show, a trip to the UK with @hammerdownfestival, a cheeky Kendrick cover in between, a hometown show in Drogheda, features on RTE, Hot Press, BBC Radio 1 to name a few, loads of shows in between, and even an acoustic EP to top it off.
.
Safe to say we’ve had a busy year. Thank you to everybody who’s come to a show, listened to our music, copped a tee, or even just told your mate about our tunes. The support this year has been immense and we genuinely appreciate everybody whose been a part of what we do 🙏
.
We’ve been taking the end of the year to recharge and spend time with loved ones. If you know us, you know we’re already working on what’s next 👀 Wishing you a Happy New Year from Idle Discourse ⚫️🟢

🏆 'Bestial Ones' has picked up several awards including Best Irish Short at the IndieCork Film Festival (@indiecorkfestival), as well Best Undergraduate Drama and Best Cinematography at the Royal Television Society Student Awards.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who came out onto Power Ballad over the past 7 weeks. We were blown away by the performances from our members! We had 4 weddings, 2 concerts, a week of night shoot parties...so grateful for all the supporting artists giving it their all. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Love from Aoise, Alisha and the Celtic Casting Team x

BTS for @herefilm2024 had the pleasure of being on set with yet another lovely bunch of people. Getting to see such a talented crew work as one is always something that intrigues but also inspires me.

IT’S A WRAP!

Last week was absolutely amazing!

We want to thank this amazing crew and cast. Every single person was on their A game and we are so pleased with the work we did together ❤️

But none of this would have been possible without our funders, so we want to give a special thanks to everyone who has donated to the film, it has made the production value way better than we had hoped.

We are in post production now for the next 10 weeks. So stay tuned on developments and dates for our screenings, we hope everyone can make it! 😘
