The 1956 Fiat 642 RN2 Bartoletti is a glimpse of Ferrari’s iconic racing program that feels like it should’ve been lost to time, but yet, still exists for all to enjoy. Chassis 02989 began life as a nine-ton Fiat bus chassis before Ferrari commissioned Carrozzeria Bartoletti of Forlì to transform it into a purpose-built race transporter. Registered new as MO 42629, it entered Scuderia Ferrari service in 1957 and spent the following years carrying the company’s competition cars across Europe. Unlike some of Ferrari’s other transporters, 02989 is particularly significant because period histories identify it as the example used exclusively for racing cars, rather than also moving road cars or unfinished bodies between suppliers and Maranello. Its open Bartoletti body could accommodate three cars, with two carried on the upper deck and another positioned below, turning what was essentially a heavy-duty Fiat commercial chassis into a specialized piece of Ferrari racing equipment. Behind the cab sits Fiat’s 6.65-liter inline-six diesel, producing approximately 92 horsepower. Period-derived specifications put its maximum speed at roughly 53 mph. The transporter remained with Ferrari into the mid-1960s before passing through subsequent Italian racing ownership, including Jolly Club, and eventually falling into disrepair. In 1988, 02989 was reportedly discovered in a shed near Cremona in poor condition before an American collector acquired and restored it. Ferrari commissioned several similar Bartoletti transporters during this period including three that were based on Fiat 642 RN2 chassis, including 02989 and 03002, while another was built on a Fiat 682 RN2 chassis. Today, 02989 is remembered for more than its spectacular appearance, as it represents the tiny pieces that still played a major role in Ferrari’s racing success.

This car planned to exemplify the perfect blend of high-performance sports car engineering, cutting-edge technology, and a harmonious fusion of traditional Maserati elegance with forward-thinking aesthetics. This is the 2008 Maserati A8 GCS Berlinetta Touring, a concept car meticulously crafted by the renowned Italian coachbuilder, Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera. Built on the Maserati GranSport platform, this unique supercar is the product of Touring’s expert craftsmanship, designed by Belgian designer Louis de Fabribeckers, who at the time helmed Touring’s styling department. The A8 GCS concept focuses on the application of advanced composite materials to achieve remarkable lightness, structural integrity, and peak performance. This car was created not merely as a showpiece but as a demonstration of Touring’s manufacturing prowess and technical abilities. It made its debut at the prestigious 2008 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The car’s design pays homage to a retro era, blending minimalist chrome detailing and wire wheels that evoke a deep sense of nostalgia while remaining cutting-edge. Despite being a concept, the A8 GCS Berlinetta planned to pack a serious punch under the hood, which had the car progressed beyond the conceptual stage, would have been a 4.2L V8 engine capable of producing up to 400 horsepower, while weighing 400 pounds less than the Maserati GranSport that it was derived from. This distinctive machine, adorned with Maserati’s iconic trident emblem—whose design was inspired by the statue of Neptune in Bologna’s Piazza Maggiore—is more than just a concept; it’s a tribute to Maserati’s legacy of combining beauty, power, and innovation. The A8 GCS Berlinetta Touring remains a testament to Touring Superleggera’s excellence in blending traditional craftsmanship with modern performance, a truly captivating masterpiece in the world of automotive design.
