40 Things I’ve Learned | 01: You’re Someone’s Child, Too.

I turn 40 in March, and I want to share 40 things I’ve learned along the way. Sharing twice a week until my birthday.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much I want to return to the things I loved as a little girl. The things that made me happy before life became so full of responsibilities.

I love being a mother. I love being a wife. And I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve built @vollieverse but I also find myself craving time alone, to do things simply because I enjoy them.

I look at my boys and hope that no matter how old they get, who they become, or how many people depend on them, they never lose the parts of themselves that make them who they are.

And somewhere in that thought, I remember that I’m someone’s child too. Before I became all these things, I was my parents little girl and I want to take good care of their daughter too.

I launched @vollieverse at 38, with two kids and no guarantee it would work. But I had something that so many women before me, and so many women today, never had. The freedom to try.

It’s not lost on me how many brilliant ideas were never given a chance or how many women never got to discover what they were capable of.

I don’t believe I have bigger dreams than they did. I just had the opportunities they deserved too.

If there’s something you want to do and you have the freedom to pursue it, I hope you do. And as we build lives of our own choosing, I hope we make it possible for more women to do the same.

All three Vollie products are Best Sellers on REVOLVE right now. Not one, not two, all three. 🩷🩵💜

I always think about how many people told me what I should be doing. The types of products I needed to launch. The funding I needed. The social media presence I didn’t have. There was always a version of how this was supposed to work.

Turns out, they were wrong.

@revolve carries some of the biggest names in beauty, including viral products everyone knows. Some of those products don’t have that Best Seller badge next to them right now.

But ours do. All three.

We just focused on making really good products and making dream hair attainable.
