It’s been a while since I posted here. Thank you to everybody who follows. 🙏 I hope the images I have collected here of beautiful people making beautiful things are inspiring everybody to make hand made magic in their own lives.

Personally going through a lot of changes these last couple of years and still trying to be an artist and survive in a changing professional landscape that is increasingly dominated by automation and technology.

On the one hand I see the usefulness of technology in creating art for entertainment purposes. On the other hand, when I’m using technology to make my art I feel like I’m floating farther and farther away from reality into a realm where I will become dependent on technology to make art.

Today I have a very rare day off from the gigs I need to survive and I’m taking the day to work on some projects in clay. Also taking time enjoy my roses that are starting to bloom. This is a photo of one of the first roses to bloom today. My neighbors gave me small rosebushes many years ago and they’ve grown huge and I have propagated them to multiply throughout my little yard over the years. They bring me comfort when I see them blooming, and they bring me heartbreak when I can’t maintain them to the level that I feel they deserve. Gardens take a lot of work and time and I just don’t have the time I used to have, to maintain mine. Sometimes the roses feel like all my hopes and dreams that I’m barely holding onto. They grow so big and I want to keep them all alive so I keep seeking new support systems to hold them up. The garden is a metaphor for my life. My dreams are too big for me to accomplish alone, but I keep myself isolated, trying to do everything alone because that’s how I feel safe.

I need to find the energy and time to keep working, dreaming and creating. I want to overcome my fears and my addiction to solitude to accomplish things I want to accomplish. That’s why I created this account to remind myself that the future I dream of is possible. And that’s why I’m here posting today to leave a record to remind myself that I’m still here. I’m still trying. My roses are still blooming and I’m not dead yet. 😅

This summer’s @mermaidparade on @coney.island.usa was LIT! Fantasy, frivolity, and fun had their love child, and here are the results ;)

Thank you to all the incredible parade participants - you brought your mermaid and oceanic creature vibes in spades (please tag!). You all were an absolute joy to be around and to photograph. This was like a (very) warm, joyous hug of an experience.

Til next year! 🧜‍♀️ 🐙 💕

Speaking of 30 Rock 😆😅
A DVD prop package. I love making fake DVD packages because I like writing a fake movie idea for the prop on the back, where a real description of a real movie would go.

We didn’t have time to plan a photo shoot for the prop so I made an image from a publicity photo of Tracy Morgan. I cut and repasted his arm in bouquet throwing fashion. I photoshopped in a bouquet flying out of his hand. Then I found a stock image of a bikini girl and cropped her just right and changed her bikini bottom to white. I drew the wedding veil in photoshop and photoshopped some flowers onto it. Then I laid all the scandalous a ton on top of a monochromatic red animal print. I love how it came together.

Would you want to see this movie?

A ridiculous graphic and illustration I did for the multi-Emmy winning comedy 30 Rock on NBC 😅 #comedy #cartoon #cartoonart

Now it’s common for all the shows and films to provide all us graphic designers access to stock libraries to churn out all the graphics we need for props and set dressing, but back in the day we used to have to use our own photos. I often took photos of myself, using a tripod, or by begging my busy colleagues to be my photographers and models.

For this tabloid magazine prop, for a TV show I relied on one of my tripod selfies, and wrote cheesy copy punctuated it with graphic candy hearts and blocks of color, to make up for the lack of photos, that a tabloid would ordinarily have.

Here is a fun illustration I did of the cast of the CBS show BULL, for a private event.

I like to draw my celebrity caricatures’ faces in Adobe Illustrator and use vector stock illustrations for the bodies and backgrounds. I like to use stock illustration in my work for a few reasons: The first, it helps me finish expressing my vision faster, the second: I see it as a way of collaborating with artists who make a living licensing work to stock houses. I like investing in the wider community of artists and utilizing the resources other artists are selling to make my own work.

Do you like to work collaboratively? What are some of your favorite artists’ resources?
