Meet the E-Board!

Name: Peter Latorre

Role: President

Military Service: United States Marine Corps Infantryman (2015–2019)

Program: M.S. in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling

What does serving in the SVA mean to you?
- After I left the Marine Corps, I missed the friendships and sense of community I had while serving. I still think about the friends I made and wish I could relive some of those moments. Founding the Hofstra Student Veterans Association has given me a way to build that kind of community again—to bring service members and veterans together and make new memories, connections, and friendships.

Honor & Remember. A Hero, Lcpl Filipe Feitor Runa DaSilva, @marines 🫡🇺🇸 I have a way with words and choosing them wisely and meticulously. I rehearse what I am going to say and I methodically choose when to say it. Because of this, I prepare myself for the rollercoaster of emotions I may encounter and experience. This ceremony, something I can only say and explain as “Divine” took place. I was honored to be invited to the home to spend time with the family after this ceremony for a gathering. After speaking words of enlightenment and encouragement my son, Micah, decided to speak to the family as a whole. His speech, his thoughtful choice of words made me look down because I did not want everyone to see my tears. He spoke from what he had just experienced and everything that he took in during the ceremony and community gathering. It showed me that he wasn’t just present, but that he was attentive during it all. Because of this, I know the hero we celebrated & remembered, his name will outlive me and those around me because my son and daughter would continue to carry that legacy when we are long gone. That is a moment that will live on for all those who heard his words. That was the purpose of the challenge and ceremony that took place over 26 hours. I am blessed to have children with such respect, honor, courage and commitment. Semper Fidelis. We Will Break The Stigma. You Are Not Alone 🫡🇺🇸

A journey with a thousand thoughts. Couldn’t sleep prior to this one, had a little Marine on my shoulder saying “You Have Firewatch/Duty” whatever floats your boat. As I walked over the bridge, I couldn’t help but look out to the water and remember the images of boats taking over the waters to rescue people from Manhattan. I remembered what I felt when I truly experienced fear for the first time as a child back in 2001 and thought no one can protect me from a terrorist attack, not even Mom and Dad. I remember hearing it on my technology teachers’ radio, I remember my social studies teacher absolutely breaking down. I remember all of my classmates being signed out early in groups as panic loomed over. I remember getting home and walking into the den and watching the news and aftermath reports. I thought this couldn’t be real, when I processed the reality, the fear kicked in. I watched news going forward in the weeks after and I saw a commercial, Marine recruiting commercial. I immediately thought those guys can protect people no matter the circumstance. And that is 1 of the main reasons I enlisted. This remembrance ruck had a challenge every step of the way, from a super early morning to trains being down due to maintenance, to weather delays, to the actual weather but this would not deter us in achieving our mission of remembering those lives lost 25 years ago and the lives continued to be lost due to illnesses from 9/11 recovery operations. Normally I can’t attend the NYC events because of conflicts as an officer within my town on the island and their events, parades and ceremonies but fortunately this date worked and indeed it was worth it with good company. We Will Always Remember, We Will Never Forget. New York Strong! Semper Fidelis 🫡🇺🇸 #NYCRucks2026 #NewYork #Marine #Veteran #Remember

Thank you to everyone who came out to @longislandboxingcharities #NightAtTheMovies IV, featuring @ringsideinthemountains, at @pro_fitgymli Ronkonkoma 🥊

Born and raised on Long Island, it was an absolute honor to stand alongside two Long Island legends and two of the best to ever lace up the gloves.

We had the privilege of honoring Long Island’s first world champion, @buddymcgirtboxing, with the LIBC Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by none other than the great @gerryacooney.

Congratulations as well to Johnny Davis, who embodies everything the legendary Bobby Cassidy Sr. Award represents, presented by @lifeofcletus_ and to @voodoopete, the future of Long Island boxing, on being named our Prospect of the Year, presented by previous winner @zay.flaherty.

Matt and I started this event four years ago, and to see it continue to grow each year means a lot to us. We couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity to give back to Long Island boxing and to the sport we love. 🥊
