This weekend was packed with great food, great community, and a wonderful celebration of the moms that keep us going. We kicked it off on Saturday at Culturafest @coronaplaza hosted by community leaders from across Queens, the unveiling of @maketheroadny’s beautiful new mural, and connecting with neighbors from across the district. On Sunday, we celebrated Mother’s day with a delicious lunch at @lafogatarb, we celebrated the Mets win with watermelon ices at @thelemoniceking, and closed off the weekend with some well-deserved family time. I cannot believe how lucky I am to run to represent such an incredible District and to share these experiences with my kids!

Mother’s Day is always special, but it’s hard to beat having a street in your neighborhood named in your mom’s honor.

Congratulations to @jimmyvanbramer and family on the newly christened — and well-deserved — Elizabeth White Marcum Way!

Yesterday, for Mother’s Day, we named a street after a very special woman: Elizabeth White Marcum.

Elizabeth was a remarkable woman whose legacy lives on through her own children, the countless children of Queens whom she helped raise, and her impact on the community.

Elizabeth’s support during her life for the LGBTQ+ community was inspiring and at the time, rare.

She stood as an ally at a time when such support was hard to find, supporting her children and exemplifying the importance of allyship, acceptance and equality. She spoke truth to power and fought for marriage equality when few others would. As a queer city council member, treading the path taken before me by Elizabeth’s son, Jimmy Van Bramer @jimmyvanbramer this is particularly meaningful.

And her impact lives on through Jimmy, through all her children and grandchildren.

As we co-name this street in Elizabeth’s honor, we not only celebrate her life but also acknowledge the profound impact of mothers who raise public servants.

Their influence shapes not just families but entire communities. So here’s to Elizabeth, to powerful mothers of all kinds, mothers by blood and by choice, and their trailblazing children.

Happy Mother’s Day to all who mother ❤️

VICTORY! 🎉 After 3+ years of relentless advocacy, New York State has officially added universal meals to the state budget! Now ALL K-12 students, regardless of income, will have access to free breakfast and lunch!

These efforts, led by @HungerSolutionsNY and @YouthFoodAdvocates, brought together over 350+ coalition members. In 2022, Chilis on Wheels joined the Healthy School Meals for All NY Kids Campaign to end hunger in NY.

We are literally speechless and crying tears of joy. At a time when grocery prices and food insecurity are at an all-time high, this victory is a much-needed relief for families across New York.

We thank @govkathyhochul, Senate Majority Leader @andreastewartcousins, and Assembly Speaker @cheastie for their leadership. We are especially grateful to prime sponsors @michellehincheynysenate and Assemblymember @votejgr, who have long championed this vital legislation.

Please share and join us in celebrating this extraordinary moment for New York's kids and families.

We did it! 🎉

What an honor to spend Mother’s Day at the street renaming for Elizabeth White Marcum. She was a force for justice, a beloved Queens community leader, and a loving caregiver to her entire neighborhood.

Her son, former Councilmember @jimmyvanbramer, spoke beautifully about her legacy, and the need to uplift the women who inspire us, care for us, and empower us. Thank you Councilmember @tiffany_caban for bringing us together to celebrate a formidable life.

I would give anything to still have her here with us. But our first Mother’s Day without our mom was still beautiful. Not just because of the perfect weather that my mom no doubt delivered, but because her life and legacy were recognized with her street in Astoria being named for her. Thankful to @tiffany_caban for making it possible. And to Attorney General Tish James, City Comptroler Brad Lander, State Assemblymembers Claire Valdez & Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas, Dr. Anju Rupchandani, and all who attended today to remember mom! For her contributions to be highlighted means the world to all of us. Happy Mother’s Day mommy!

So wonderful to be out at the first ever Astoria Farmers Market!

It's a beautiful day to talk to voters—and say hi to friends like @tiffany_caban and @votejgr.

Moms. Culture. Power. Politics.

Yesterday, we launched Vote Mama’s Motherboard — a new force at the intersection of politics, entertainment, and advocacy, co-chaired by @busyphilipps and Rep. @nikemawilliams.

We gathered bold leaders, including Motherboard members NY Assemblymama @votejgr and @sophieflack, and true allies - like Alec & Hilaria Baldwin and Josh Charles, all fired up to get more moms elected. Because moms aren’t just holding it all together — we’re ready to lead at every level of government. This isn’t symbolic. It’s strategic.

A huge thanks to our co-hosts for all of your support.

This is what it looks like when culture shifts, allies show up, and real power builds.

And we’re just getting started.

As someone who believes deeply in the power of food to nourish bodies and build stronger communities, I’m thrilled to celebrate this historic step for New York families. 🍎❤️ Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, every public school student in New York will have access to free, nutritious school meals - no questions asked. That’s 2.7 million kids who can now focus on learning, not hunger.

Huge thanks to @govkathyhochul, @andreastewartcousins, Speaker Carl Heastie, and all the lawmakers and advocates who helped make this happen. This is what progress looks like.
