Hi all!

If you missed the bulletin board these pals and their band hands will be returning to the hill Oct 3rd & 4th for a doozy double header weekend of shows. It’s our last hoorah of the season and we’re grateful to be able to spend it in such good company.

This is just a gentle nudge to come on up the hill for this one. It’s not only going to be real life, but real good.

Twas’ a blast raffling once upon a time ago, so we’re bringing that back for the shows too! Dilly dally dahlias might be had, but they might be dry dead dahlias🫠we like those too😊

These shed shows continue to help reenergize the spirits to the next mile markers. Thankful for all the good peoples that make it so.

Hope you can join us for what is sure to be another special weekend celebrating new albums, seasons, and friends, and more 🎂🥂

Chaos & Commotion is out everywhere today. It was recorded with @yesterato_wolfe and @_patkeen_ in Dex’s studio in Minneapolis, MN. I can’t thank Dex, Pat, and everyone else involved enough for contributing their time, talent, and heart to these recordings. Making music is cool, but my heart is also full with gratitude and appreciation for the friendships and @martysdeli sandwiches I got out of it along the way. And really for my wife, @nzambonivergara who has shown nothing but support, encouragement, and excitement for this project ❤️. Excited for the next one already! Would mean the world if you’d give the album a listen and share with some friends. The first 48 hours of a release are the most important for visibility :) Links in bio!

Recommended shows this week in the Twin Cities! Are you going to any of these shows?

Wed, Thu and Fri - Logan Richardson (Alto Sax) at Berlin- 3 day residency with Melvin Gibbs (base), Omar Abdulkarim (trumpet), Kavyesh Kaviraj (piano) and Kevin Washington (drums). Expansive, avant-garde exploration of post-bop jazz, electronic soundscapes, and fluid improvisation’s. Excellent musicians, really worth going to.

Sat - League Two album release show at 7th St Entry with Waking Hours and Eli Orion. League Two - theatrical ’80s post-punk revivalism, art-rock, and modern shoegaze band. Celebrating their new album. Waking Hours - Ethereal indie rock driven by roaring vocals and shimmering guitars. Eli Orion - introspective indie-pop that blends blown-out 808s with delicate fingerstyle guitar. I really like all three of these local bands.

Sun - Frail Talk from Colorado is coming to the intimate basement venue The Birdhaus. Tender indie-folk, bedroom-pop with atmospheric synths. Kiernan - Spacious, country-tinged indie-folk, sharp, plainspoken songwriting. voulouse - texture-driven experimental Americana probing the intersections of nature and spirituality.

Wed - Fever Field, 1947, and Poolboy at 7th St Entry - 3 twin cities based indie rock/pop bands. Fever Field has this upbeat, nostalgia laced pop sound; Poolboy - dreamy indie rock; 1947 - noisy punk inflected indie rock.

Sat - Nershfest at 56 Brewing is back with China Rider (grateful dead tribute), The People Brothers Band (R&B, funk, soul), General B and The Wiz (blues indie rock), Mae Simpson (funk soul, rock), and Reptar from Georgia (indie dance rock). Great placee to get some beer and dance.

Sat - Loathe and all under heaven at Fillmore. I’m going to like anything that reminds me of Deftones. Loathe - A cinematic, devastatingly heavy collision of metallic hardcore and atmospheric shoegaze.

Thu - ML Buch and Lee Noble at The Cedar - ML Buch is a Danish composer/producer performing with her 7-string Stratocaster guitar in open tunings, vocals, and intricate electronic backdrops. Very floaty/dreamy.

I brought this song to Dex and Pat almost a year ago now. Here we are working out the kinks on Sailor. You can also hear @arlo_cristofaro behind me starting to figure out some vocal harmonies. Here’s a little glimpse into some of the recording process —>

First, we all sat down and sussed out the timing and structure of the song. This is where @arlo_cristofaro had the groundbreaking idea to flip flop the prechorus and chorus! This was a true aha moment for the song 🙌🏼

@yesterato_wolfe had been working out this really fun slide line for the intro during our initial sit down. Hearing it in context of the whole song was really exciting. It made the intro way more interesting and gave the song some energy right up front!

Once we got acoustic guitar and the intro guitar recorded, @_patkeen_ laid down some boppy bass that really gave the song some momentum! I always love Pat’s little runs and walk-abouts.

When trying to create the arc of the song, we wanted the second verse to take off and become a bit a bigger. @yesterato_wolfe and @_patkeen_ adding some finger picked guitar harmonies really did the trick. My favorite part of this whole song is when these guitars come in.

We had been operating off a drum track that Pat had played thus far. When @jt_bates_ came in and hopped on this song, it felt like it glued everything together. Laid back, fluid, and straight down the middle. 🫶🏼

Then @voulouse paid us a visit to put the cherry on top with her beautiful and effortless harmonies! 🫶🏼
