@jasminereidart captures mercy so beautifully here in the album artwork for Mercy We Need. If you’ve been following the singles, you’ve seen some of this artwork already up close - Not Yet Home, Farewell, Hello Again, and the title track Mercy We Need.

Jasmine has been a dear family friend for more than 15 years now - we went to undergrad together, ministered together on the praise team for our undergrad church, and she introduced me to my wife, @cthunrei. Over the course of all these years we’ve witnessed each other grow in art, and I’m so thankful that we’ve had the chance to come together now to minister yet again around this ever needed topic of mercy. Here’s some of what she wrote about her vision for how the music shaped her decision to paint as she did, what she did.

“If grief is a landscape, then hills to me represent the battle to find balance and hope again after a loss. So many of the songs on this album speak to collective mourning, and this painting is a reflection of that process. On the left side of the canvas, five small red “figures” stand before a hill. They represent five of the spirits who abided with the musicians and with me during the making of this album: Tramaine’s mother, and the four individuals who lost their lives on the train. The positioning of the five is intentional. They stand near a city in white, but they seem to look towards another city on a hill. With these two cities, I wanted to think alongside the concept of “heaven on earth,” which is all anyone who is grieving could want: the collective sense that they’re not alone, and that God’s peace is with them.”

Nat Love Deluxe out now
We added three in-studio performances with videos, kinda like a then and now thing.
In the age of fast fashion, its cool to have made something that still holds up for who it holds up for.

The first song from Mercy We Need is out, “Not Yet Home.”

Early in the morning on Labor Day 2024, in my beloved Chicago, Adrian Collins, Simeon Bihesi, Sean Jones and Margaret Johnson were murdered in their sleep on the Blue Line. Our city is not yet home for us all. This country is not yet home for us all. #abolishice And as a follower of Jesus this world is not yet home for us and even God. God is still making home here, and these murders testify to that. Lord have mercy on us as we contend with homelessness - for people who live outside and for people who feel homeless on the inside.

Not Yet Home is an obituary, a eulogy, and a plea of hope. Out now on all streaming platforms. Thank you @ethanphilion @ihitmybestfriends @ms.parker09 @evasupreme444 Artwork by @jasminereidart

Listen wherever you stream. The full record comes September 25.
