Announcing the 2026 Newport Beach Film Festival IRISH SPOTLIGHT!

On Sunday, October 18th, the Newport Beach Film Festival will present its IRISH SPOTLIGHT, an evening celebration of Irish cinema and culture. The event will feature premieres of the films TRAD, THE BODY IS WATER, and YOU’LL NEVER BELIEVE WHO’S DEAD followed by a celebration of Irish culture and cuisine.

The Irish Spotlight films will screen at Regal Big Edwards Newport. The post-screening celebration will take place at Muldoon’s Irish Pub, featuring live music and hosted hors d'oeuvres.

The Festival will screen the North American premiere of TRAD. Directed by Lance Daly and starring Sarah Hone and Hilary McCarthy, TRAD follows the story of a gifted young fiddle player who runs away with a group of traveling musicians, discovering her raw passion, testing her boundaries, and learning to redefine her musical heritage on her own terms.

Directed by Vicky Wight and starring Isiah Whitlock Jr., Saoirse-Monica Jackson, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, THE BODY IS WATER will make its world premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival. This drama tells the story of a grieving man, yearning to disappear, as he travels to a remote village on the west coast of Ireland. There, he finds himself drawn into the lives of a close-knit community, an eccentric young woman, and her curious dog—all of whom refuse to let him fade away.

Directed by Dallan Shovlin, YOU’LL NEVER BELIEVE WHO’S DEAD features Peter Claffey, Ruth Codd, and Michael Colgan. The film tells the story of an Irish family gathering for Christmas and discussing a local robbery. After debating how they’d pull off a better heist, they unintentionally end up testing their plan, targeting a local farmer rumored to have hidden wealth.

The IRISH SPOTLIGHT is supported by Culture Ireland, Screen Ireland, Tourism, Ireland, Consulate General of Ireland - Los Angeles, Irish Arts & Entertainment, Irish Film & Television Academy, Irish Film Institute, Galway Film Fleadh, Irish American Magazine, Contemporary Irish Arts Center Los Angeles, Ireland Week, Northern Ireland Screen, Pub Thirty Two, Muldoon’s Irish Pub, Guinness.
