The building where Groove Night 1.0 began on Riverside Drive in Studio City is coming down.

In 1996, Rosie Cox Gitlin gave me a key to her studio and trusted me with a vision: creating a space where street dancers and artists could connect and build a genuine community.

What started with me practicing alone in an empty room slowly grew into a movement. Those late nights gave birth to The Groovaloos and a 20-year journey that inspired countless artists and launched incredible careers.

The walls may come down, but the culture and community we built will live forever.

Thank you, Rosie, for believing in a young dreamer. The room may be gone, but the circle remains.❤️

We are the Horse and the Wind
Dancing endlessly in us
Her majesty
Unfurling in pirouettes of dust
Taming the pain of imprisonment
Magnified by hands
Holding onto what is sacred
Time passing time
Standing still
You move me to listen
When you dance
Beyond the echo of silence
Spilling quiet all over us
Not for desire
To kiss you on the mouth
But for the sorrow
I long to swallow
Burning heavy
Inside of your heart
19 hands high
Soldier’s tears
Concealed in the grace and beauty
Of her mane
The unforeseen memories
Of lost days
Remain
Haunting
